Designed a mini overhead with everything you need nothing you don't for the pmdg 738. All 3d printed with no backlighting (maybe in the future). Such a fun project! Curious to what others think about it. Still missing the knobs for the dials but almost done!

Very nice!

fervent oar
#

Very nice! Are the stl files available? And could I know what switches, etc. you used? Thanks @deft bluff

deft bluff
#

@fervent oar No, I haven't made the files available yet. This is something I can work on slowly, there is a lot of versions i have made and the files are slightly messy.

#

This project is still a bit of work in progress. While the physical part is done and wiring the mobiflight coding is only half done

deft bluff
#

@fervent oar I am working to put the files together when I have them I will mention it here. If you go to the 3 dots at the top right in discord you can follow the thread to when I post comments you get notified

fervent oar
#

@deft bluff thanks for responding, how much filament will this use?

deft bluff
#

I used about 3/4 of a roll but I had lots of testing parts so I am gonna guess around half a kg

fervent oar
#

Thanks

hello @deft bluff, the project looks really nice! i was interested to know when the files would be aviailable, thanks

deft bluff
#

I am really busy so I don't know when I will have them done

deft bluff
#

I have posted the STL files on Thingiverse for those who are interested in the project. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7037507

This mini 737 overhead panel is designed to work with Mobiflight software and the PMDG 737 800. This panel was engineered to be completed on any 3D printer as the text is raised, allowing you to pause and swap filament. This project is still a work in progress, but most of the design is complete. See the documentation in PDF for assembly instruc...

This is a work and progress still, I will try and update as people have questions and I have time

#

@patent copper @fervent oar Your news has been answered, Thanks for the wait.

The hardware is complete in the photos

#

I just am finishing the software right now.

fervent oar
#

yes, i was asking @patent copper :)

patent copper
#

@fervent oar yea no problem, though it wont be ready until probably 2 months 😅 i have lots of exam and a sailplane license to catch up to, ill try to finish it quickly though 😊

fervent oar
#

same haha, i still have to order some parts which take like a month to arrive😅

deft bluff
#

it took me the whole winter with work and activities haha so i feel that😅

patent copper
#

Got the gray pla, i'll start printing 👍

unkempt barn
#

started printing already and have most of the parts. what momentary switches did you use? ive got latching ones, just trying to find the right momentary ones on ali express. all the ones i can find are MOM-OFF-MOM rather than ON-OFF-MOM

@unkempt barnif those are 12mm then you can find them in our shop

Great looking switches that are mountable to panel or PCB. Authentic size and feel.

These switches are great for many different aircraft types: Cessna 152/172/182/206, CJ4, Boeing.

Different variants:

  • ON-ON - Two position switch, lever stays in both positions. Suitable for light switches, Avionics Master switch, generator
  • ON-OFF-ON - Thre...

Tons of diffrent configurations of these style of switchss in this size

deft bluff

all the switches are the same form factor

unkempt barn

thanks for that

patent copper
#

Ty for the switches links Films! Started printing the panels 😁

#

@fervent oar

patent copper
#

@deft bluff could you send me the links to the hardware (especially switches you bought) plz? 😁

green elk
#

@patent copperscroll up the chat

patent copper
#

I am also looking for the arduino models etc so i still stand my question 😁

green elk
#

what do you mean by arduino models?

#

from the pictures BeProFilms shared, I can tell you he is using Mega 2560 R3., widely available on Aliexpress

patent copper
#

Still would like the links anyways 😊 if hes ok with it ofc

green elk
#

I'm sure he is 🙂

Also this is still very much a protype so many things will need to be modfied to work and I know the guide is still very basic.

#

At some point I will complete this project and make full instructions and parts guide and improve the parts for easier building but for now its a work in progress

Found my local electronics shop had the momentary toggle switches I needed and had the other parts already. All that’s left is to wire it all up. @deft bluff I did notice the lower arduino mount stl is different to what you’d printed. There doesn’t seem to be a way to secure this version to the frame. Could you please share your other version.

deft bluff
#

damn that was quick

unkempt barn
#

Might reprint a few of the face plates. I took them off the printer a little quickly and they’ve warped a little

deft bluff
#

also can you sharing the knobs? its the one part i havnt made yet

deft bluff
unkempt barn
#

this one was a free one i found - https://www.printables.com/model/191429-boeing-style-medium-knob/files for the volume and brightness. for the engines i used https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/737-knob.

i'd also found this one https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/boeing-knob but would be usable with a hole added for a set screw.

cool thx

unkempt barn
deft bluff
#

fixed it and uploaded the correct part to Thingiverse. I just cut it wrong when exporting.

#

@unkempt barn curious on what your thoughts are on this so far? look like your failrly far into the build?

unkempt barn
#

liking it so far thanks. layout and fonts for the front panels are great, printed well with the 0.2mm nozzle on my Bambu A1.

deft bluff
#

.2 nozzle would be nice. I only have a .4 and it was annoying

fervent oar
# patent copper

very nice. did you print the text with white filament or did you paint it?

patent copper
#

too broke for multi, using a posca marker

fervent oar
#

same haha, when are you starting with the wiring?

fervent oar
patent copper
#

aint got the money for the arduinos etc yet

fervent oar
#

same here😅 i don't have the (ON) off ON switches etc

patent copper
fervent oar
#

also, which M2, M3, M5 did you use ?

unkempt barn
patent copper
patent copper
#

@unkempt barn hey man! Are you using the arduino mega R3 or the Pro mini?

green elk
#

On the photos there are Mega R3 but Mega Pro Mini has exactly the same amount of pins. The only difference is footprint

unkempt barn
#

I’m going to use the mega r3 with shield. Trying to decide if I use 2 like the original design or try get it on one using some shift registers.

deft bluff
#

yeah the mega r3 with the sheild board to solder too is a time saver

fervent oar
#

Ohhh wow 😮 looks great

fervent oar
#

Do you guys perhaps have a link for a rotary switch used for the engine start switches? Thanks

astral summit
#

What printer are you guys using? I’ve never gotten good prints with my ender v3 se

unkempt barn
#

Bambu a1 with AMS and a 0.2mm nozzle. Haven’t turned on my ender 5 plus since I got the bambu.

astral summit
#

Nice. I might have to get one. Looks great

fervent oar
#

where do you buy the 6digit 7segment display? i'm about to start the overhead project finally... scared that shipping will take months

lament field
#

I bought some from Aliexpress. If using Max7219, make sure they are common cathode.

#

They were bare 6-digit clusters

astral summit
#

I've been printing the panels from Thingiverse

fervent oar
#

which kind of screws should i use to attatch the plates to the frame?

astral summit
#

There’s directions in the folder. It says either m2 or m3. I haven’t mounted them yet. So I’m not totally sure.

@unkempt barn Hi do-you accept to share the *.mmc file?
Many thanks nice job

unkempt barn
#

i was quick to print and assemble mine but ive still not gotten around to wiring it up and create a config sorry. hopefully @deft bluff is able to share their config.

deft bluff
#

I haven't even touched mobiflight yet for this project. I have only finished building it and wiring it. Hopefully this winter I have some time again to finish it up.

astral summit
#

Why not learn to create it yourself so you know exactly which pins to which switch

#

Mobiflight is very easy to configure

queen estuary
#

Why i was interested to your mmc file it is also because i do not fond the method to use with a switch FLT LAND segments to display Land and FLT altitude.
So if BeProFilms or Dudefromoz Do-you test it?
Steenos i agree with you only a problem to configure this function Switch=> commute to FLT and Land
and it is difficult to find method
i am going to open my thread in mobiflight as said Tuomas from MF
Thanks all guy

deft bluff
#

this requires a logic statement, it needs to check what the condition is of the switch to decide what to display. this can be done from what i remeber by setting a variable to the switch 0 and 1 and then using that variable in the output of the screen.

#

I haven't tested this yet, but it was what i planned to do when i was designing it.

#

also, if you guys find the sim value for the display please put it here, i don't want to dig to find it

Many thanks for answering I tried something like that but not work today
