The display screen which shows the flight level values and the dot for managed etc.
How do you get that display on that screen?
do you have to drag it in the sim or is there a special method to get images beyond numbers?

It's not view from the sim, those displays show values taken from various LVars so they do not need a video cable, unlike an MCDU unit.

Ah so you would have some logic that would look at the Lvar to see if variable for managed is true and then push a Cicle or dot to the display to show that?
Where as because of the complexity of the MCDU, you have to drag the mcdu image to your secondary display.

Yes, exactly. I guess one could technically program an MCDU using LVars but since they need to be positioned and managed, it's way easier to just project the instrument display on a screen and mimic the buttons using the Lvars. In the case of EFIS and FCU, there is no need because you are not showing "graphics", just some dot or dash and numbers, they have a fixed position, so it's easier by using directly the values from LVars.
