Hi hello guys,i've been trying to upload Kavsimulations configs to mobiflight but it's not happening!...everytime that i click the Kav config in order to upload into Mobiflight it says " Thi app doesn't run in your Pc" this keep happenning since i've upgraded my pc to windows 11!...and now Mobiflight is behaving strangely it doesn't reconize my boards,i've uninstalled a few times and the result is the same, any ideas?...thanks in advanced.😩😩😩

If your boards are clones, maybe your new windows installation doesn't have the drivers for the ch340 USB serial chip.
Does arduino IDE recognize the boards?
Which file are you trying to load for Kav display?

empty gazelle
#

Hi Jaime,i'm trying to upload the Kav overhead, glashield and pedestal configs into mobiflight wich has been behaving strangely, now it recognizes the boards and now it doesn't!...i'm installing the CH340 driver, let's see what happens!...

@empty gazelle did you read the link above that the bot posted, and did it help?

#

in case you missed this thread.

Asking the same question on many threads does not help unless you follow up with the clarifying questions first.

#

if this does not work out, or you are confused as to what to do, maybe we can have a screen sharing session to see what the problem is.

#

what time zone are you in, if that is an option for you? Remember that we are all volunteers, I am not sure if you have also asked @white cove but it sounds like you have trouble with Arduinos and Mobiflight in general now, so that needs to be sorted out first. Let's take one thing at a time.

dreamy jungle
rotund pulsar
#

yeah, I also think there is a misunderstanding something since likely MobiFlight is new to you. But we have all been there.

One option is to explain step by step exactly what you are doing: What you do, what you see, what options you select and what you do next

#

I also think you are trying to load a file in a wrong place, and we try to help but we need to know more of what is happening.

#

@empty gazelle can you explain what you are trying to do, starting from opening MobiFlight - also, how did you install MobiFlight?

When you start MobiFlight, do you see this window?

#

At which point do you get the "This app doen't run on your PC" message?

#

Assuming you see this window, please explain what you are doing next, and what exactly happens. Clearly something is not working, but we need to know more detail to be able to help.

empty gazelle
#

You have to see the Kavsimulations video about the firmare 2.5.3 wich uses mobiflight,so,when it reaches that part were he selects the kav configs for the A320 from flybywire,so,when he clicks the config it's supposed to open or transfer all the files to mobiflight and this is regarding the kav displays, the Fcu,efis1 & 2 and so on!...that's when the message comes up and it doesn't transfer any files at all to mobiflight and it was doing it in windows 10 and now with windows 11 it doesn't!...😩😩😩

rotund pulsar
#

so hmm, when uploading it to the arduino?

#

the .mfmc files I suppose then, the pin configuration

#

can you share a link to the video?

empty gazelle
#

Hi Tuomas,i've been trying to upload the link but no success,so, if you go to youtube and type kavsimulations videos and it will come up a few videos and what you looking for is " New custom Lcd displays tutorial version 2.5.3 video, please have a look,it's all inthere!...,so, when he clicks on the glashield folder it's supposed to transfer the config files to mobiflight and it doesn't, it opens a window with apps to use like notepad, etc or the msg saying that this app doesn't run in your Pc!...

rotund pulsar
#

ok. I will take a look later - meanwhile, are you able to take screenshots? If you have Discord on your PC as well, you can press Win + Shift + S and select an area on the screen with the mouse, and you can then press Ctrl + V on here, to paste the selection as image.

#

The "app doesnt run on your pc" sounds a bit strange and unusual and I just hope to understand when that happens.

white cove
#

I'm just catching up on this, and it does sound like you're doing something wrong unfortunately.
It would be very useful if you could do a screen capture of you following the process so we can identify which step is being done incorrectly.

empty gazelle
#

Hi guys, thanks for helping,i was just following the Kav video regarding custom displays 2.5.3 version!...it actually doing well in windows 10 but with windiws 11 it's another story!...

white cove
empty gazelle
#

I'm happy for you,i guess i'm the chosen one,it's a shame it not the euromillions,eh,eh!...😀😀😀

white cove
empty gazelle
#

I bought all the kav displays, i'm very happy with them, very good product, excellent quallity!...i recomend everyone to have a look,it's well worth it!...😀😀😀

rotund pulsar
#

@empty gazelle you really need to provide us more information to solve the problem though

#

screenshots (or just photos, even though screenshots are usually more clear) of the steps you are doing to get to the error

empty gazelle
#

Ok Tuomas, i'm not a computer geek so, bear with me, i'm trying to provide you with the screen shots as soon as i can, thank you very much for your patience!...

rotund pulsar
#

yeah that is totally understood

#

we are basically trying to understand the situation and figure ways to do that

#

there is also no rush, we wont go anywhere, its us also just doing this as our hobby, so lets not stress, we'll figure it out

#

do you have Discord on your PC or on your phone?

#

just trying to think what is easiest for you, hence the questions

#

if your discord is on your PC, you can do Win-Shift-S to make a screenshot (it makes your screen dark, and you can then use your mouse to select an area of your screen that you can paste to discord with Ctrl + V key combination (like usual copy-paste)

#

if your discord is on your phone, then using the phone camera to just take photos of the screen is probably easiest. It is less clear than screenshots but it does not really matter here

empty gazelle
#

i took a few screen shots, i'm trying to upload them, i'm not sure if it's right!...sorry!...

empty gazelle
rotund pulsar
#

@empty gazelle ok, the screenshots show fine, good

#

so what is what you are now trying to do and what the problem is? uploading the .mfmc file to the arduino?

#

your last screenshot does show you the KAV Glareshield arduino with FCU, EFIS L and EFIS R devices added

#

if you just opened the file, you also need to press that "Upload config" button to write the pin definitions it to the arduino

#

but I will wait for your reply so that we dont get ahead of things, one step at a time

#

But to open and upload the .mfmc file, click this:

#

and then browse to find the profiles folder

#

but looking at your screenshot you already did, because there are the FCU and EFIS lcd devices in the list on the Arduino

#

So I think there is confusion that is understandable if you are very new to MobiFlight in general, you are not the only one either. Lets just go step by step and we will figure this out!

#

Like you said, not everyone is at ease with computers, even though we all share the passion for flight simulation, so it can be very frustrating at times, I totally hear you.

empty gazelle
#

Thanks Tuomas for helping once again,i'm off the computer now, i've done all that but surrely i've done something wrong somewere, will see that tomorrow😀😀😀

white cove
#

@empty gazelle
Screenshot 2024-08-01 150409.png This seems to imply that you are trying to open this file manually. You shouldn't be. As Tuomas shows in their screenshot, you click Open from within the MobiFlight Modules page.
But then Screenshot 2024-08-01 155047.png seems to show that you have got the board config on the board working already?

As this all seems to be working, the next thing you would do now is to go back to the main MobiFlight window and click File -> Open and choose a *.mcc file from the install directory: C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\MobiFlight\MobiFlight Connector\Community\kavSimulations\profiles (where xxx is your Windows username.
Then handle the orphaned serial if needed, and ensure that the module outputs in the config rows are set to your actual device. Save this as NEW file, do not overwrite the original, as this will get overwritten back to default anytime we push an update.

Then, once you're happy that all the LCD stuff is working, you can then choose File -> Merge to bring in the rest of your working config for buttons, LEDs, etc.

rotund pulsar
#

yeah, once you are back, lets get it sorted out. It is likely something that just got overlooked since its all new, no worries. We'll sort it out.

white cove
#

I've just had @empty gazelle message in my discord asking for help again. I've referred him back to this thread so we can keep ontop of it in one place.

empty gazelle
#

Hi guys,i'm home now!...thank you very much for your help

#

So,do you consider a remote access?

white cove
#

I'm not available right now. But how far have you got with our recommendations above?

empty gazelle
#

i've repeated everything step by step and following your video (2.5.3) but what happens is when i click file open in Mobiflight and in this case i click Glareshield config in order to transfer to the front page in mobiflight it shows file empty!

#

i'll be home all day,if you have time to help me that would be great but no stress!

white cove
#

Ok, I think you need to do a compelte uninstall and reinstall in my opinion. Sounds like you may have corrupted files possibly. Make sure you have any other files and configs you need (personal ones) backed up, and then uninstall MF and reinstall.

empty gazelle
#

Ok Jak i'll do that again!...😀😀

rotund pulsar
#

yes, it is very easy to load the file from the KavSimulations folder, and then modify it and save. Its best to open it, and first "Save As" into a new location so the original stays intact

#

I think it should be handled a bit better by Connector, like "Load default config file" button that opens it as a new file that does not save over the bundled file

empty gazelle
#

Hi Tuomas,i'm gonna uninstall everything again and re-install like Jak said!...

empty gazelle
#

Just installed Mobiflight and back to square one,i've opened Mofiflight connector, clicked the file open then. A page with a search bar opens, then i paste the copied serchbar then the kavsimulations comes up boards, config, devices, firmware and profiles then i click open and they are empty, the folders are there but they are empty!...

white cove
dreamy jungle
#

The full path actually has a couple more layers beyond \profiles, but nothing that would not be obvious by just inspecting the content of the file in Windows File Explorer
.......\Mobiflight\Community\kavSimulations\profiles\msfs2020\FlyByWire A320

#

So, the profiles folder will appear empty if only searching for mcc files.

#

but the additional folders should be shown nonetheless

empty gazelle
#

Hi guys, this afternoon i've managed to transfer to Mobiflight connector the kav configs,so, when i clicked the test button it started doing it's thing and then stoped with an error message and nothing happend!...😩😩😩

#

So,i'll try again tomorrow!...😭😭😭

white cove
#

@empty gazelle Again, please keep the conversation here so we can all see what is going on.

empty gazelle
#

hi guys,i've managed now to upload the kav configs into Mobiflight connector but when i click to test it starts flashing and comes up an error message " ConfigerrorException_setCustomDevice" i don't know what else to do!...Any ideas?

#

and nothing happens in the Kav Displays!

white cove
#

What displays do you have connected?
Just 1x FCU? Or 1x FCU and 1x EFIS, etc?

empty gazelle
#

I had uploaded the all in one from Fenix and also FBW and the result is the same!

white cove
#

What displays do you have connected?
Just 1x FCU? Or 1x FCU and 1x EFIS, etc?

empty gazelle
#

and i have all the displays connected

white cove
empty gazelle
#

the only displays i don't have are the Overhead RMP!

white cove
#

Ok, and so you have 3 arduinos?

#

1 for the glareshield, 1 for the pedestal and 1 for the overhead?

empty gazelle
#

yes withe their respective shields

white cove
#

Ok, and you have installed the relevant hardware config for each arduino?
There is a different profile for each arduino
...\MobiFlight\MobiFlight Connector\Community\kavSimulations\config

empty gazelle
#

i'm not sure that i understand that question!..

white cove
empty gazelle
white cove
#

Ok, in MobiFlight click Extras -> Managed Orphaned Serials and show me what you see in the box that pops up please

empty gazelle
#

ok when that window came up i've clicked each one of them individually and assigned them and clicked ok!

white cove
#

Ok now click the Test button with the blue triangle at the top of MobiFlight and tell me what the displays are doing please.

#

They should be flashing some 1 and 0

empty gazelle
#

it's flashing but nothing happens, no numbers and now not even the error msg!

white cove
#

Is it flashing OR is nothing happening?

empty gazelle
#

it's flashing in mobiflight but nothing on the displays!

white cove
empty gazelle
#

no zeros no ones nothing

white cove
#

Do you definitely have the cables connected the correct way?
They can only go one way into the shield, but you need to make sure the connecter is the right way when it's connected to the displays.
I.e., CS is going to CS, and so on

empty gazelle
#

yes, i'm very sure of that!...it must be something wrong the mobiflight connector!

#

i tryied to save the config like "save as" and it didn't save anything

white cove
#

Does the FCU at least show ALT |--LVL/CH--| ?

empty gazelle
#

no, completely dark!...just the orange light around the displays!

white cove
#

Then the firmware on the board isn't installed properly, or the cables aren't connected properly.
That is the only possible problem. As even with no data being sent, the FCU will always display ALT |--LVL/CH--|

#

Do you have the correct config installed on each board?

I.e., have you mistakingly put the overhead config on the glareshield arduino by mistake?

#

Unplug all the arduinos, and then only plug back in the glareshield arduino. Let's see what that shows when you open the configurator with only that connected

empty gazelle
#

yeah, like you said the cables only go in one way,as for the software could there be mistake? possibly!...i'm gonna check everything again but i don't have more time today!...i'll let you know the outcome! and thank you very much for your help!...have a nice weekend!...

white cove
#

Please, if you can quickly spare 5 more mins, I really would like to see what happens when you have just the glareshield arduino plugged in

#

(I'm travelling next week and won't be around much for support)

#

Unfortunatley not, I'd really recommend you delete your phone number from discord!

#

This is a public thread

empty gazelle
#

ok,i'll desconnect the other boards and leave the glareshield on,just a second!

#

oh crap sorry i forgot about that security, how do i delete that?

dreamy jungle
#

Message deleted

white cove
empty gazelle
#

thanks Jaime

#

ok,i've just done that!...just the glareshield connected and still nothing...flashing in mobiflight but just the orange light around the displays and completely dark!...

white cove
#

Ok, but with just the glareshield connected, when you open the MobiFlight Modules page, what does it say it is?

empty gazelle
#

it says glareshield and fcu and efis Left and right!

white cove
#

And what pin numbers are set in the config?

empty gazelle
#

ok.FCU Data 8 CLK 11 CS 12, EFis L Data 34,CLK 33,CS 32 , EFIS R Data 37, CLK 36, CS 35

white cove
#

Ok that sounds right for the shield.

So, if the correct device config is installed on the board, and the boards are not orphaned, and the cables are connected properly, then I can't think of any reason why this isn't working.
It may need some more expertise from the MobiFlight team. Perhaps there is something on your PC blocking communication between MF and the Arduinos?
Maybe @dreamy jungle or one of the other MF team can offer some suggestions.

#

@wind drum If you have some time over the next few days, would you be able to have a think on what the problem might be please?

empty gazelle
#

Ok Jak, i'll try that as soon as i can!...i've got to go!... yes i need to solve this problem i can't progress with my projects and my flying!

white cove
#

We'll work it out, and I'm sure it'll be something silly we've overlooked. Speak soon.

empty gazelle
#

ok many thanks! see you soon, bye

dreamy jungle
#

I suggest taking a multimeter and testing that each Arduino pin actually connects to the expected pin in the displays.

wind drum
#

Maybe one test could be to wire a button to one of the boards and check if this one work. If so we know that it's not a communication error between the Arduino and the connector/PC.

empty gazelle
#

Hi Ralf i'll try that as soon as i can😀😀😀

rotund pulsar
#

or there are configured displays that are not connected to the configs.

#

I think the problem comes from the use of premade configs that expect certain hardware to be there, and since @empty gazelle you are new to all this, it is hard for you to know how everything works and what the Connector is expecting to be in the Arduino, when the config is being run.

This usually works well for a full product that you just use with a premade configuration for a given aircraft, but in case of displays, it probably requires a bit more understanding of how MobiFlight works, and since we are not sure everything is connected 100% correctly, something is missing because of that error message.

#

One approach we could take is to uncheck all the output configuration lines, and then enable one at a time and see whether that works, and if not, lets try to solve that issue first.

#

We need to simplify the issue so that we know where the problem is, and then once we find the problem that causes the error we can enable more of the confgs.

empty gazelle
#

Ok Tuomas, i'll try that!...what about the driver CH340,i've tried to install it with no success!...

rotund pulsar
#

your megas show up fine and if the config upload works ok according to your screenshots, I dont think that is a problem

#

the issue is just a lot of new things at once and confusion which is very very understandable, and we'll figure things out and you'll understand this all sooner than later

rotund pulsar
#

but I would perhaps start with just one display and see that we get it working with the test mode for example

#

to verify it is connected right and responds

wind drum
rotund pulsar
#

oh ok, true

wind drum
#

But I am not completely sure, so a confirmation would be good.
Maybe also a photo of one board with the cabling to the displays connected.

empty gazelle
#

Yes,i'm using the kav shields

rotund pulsar
#

what happens if you open for example the FCU speed value -config

#

I do not have the kav display myself, so I will just try to instruct you and see what happens 🙂 but open the FCU speed config

#

and show what is in the "Display" tab

#

@white cove I flashed my mega as "Kav Mega" and uploaded the "glareshield" mfmc

#

and running the all in one FBW v2 but I do not get any "unable to set device" issues

#

it just runs but obviously nothing is connected

white cove
# empty gazelle

I’ve had customers report issues when using this green breakout boards. There should be no need for it with my shields anyway, try removing that.

empty gazelle
#

Sorry guys,i've decided to do a clean install and i'm struggling to upload the config into mobiflight connector again!...

rotund pulsar
#

can you come to voice channel now?

#

lets see what the problem is

#

I am there, if you want to come and click the screen sharing I can see what you are doing and we can hear each other, if that helps

#

it might enable me to see something that we are overlooking with the upload

wind drum
#

The connector on the display can't be rotated by 180 degree?

rotund pulsar
#

I think they are JST

empty gazelle
#

I'm trying to config mic,just a sec

rotund pulsar
#

yeah no worries

#

I can see you in the voice channel but the microphone is not picking sound right now

wind drum
#

The displays do not one by default as far as I know

rotund pulsar
#

if you click that "lets check" button you should see a green bar show your microphone volume and your voice will sound from speakers too

#

@empty gazelle I can still see you in the voice channel but no sound so far

empty gazelle
#

So i press the mic i can see the green circle and i hear my voice in the speakers why is not going out?

rotund pulsar
#

maybe restart discord?

#

that sometimes helps me

empty gazelle
#

Ok

empty gazelle
rotund pulsar
#

let me look

#

yea the sound does not seem to work, remember to disconnect from the voice channel so you dont accidentally broadcast your screen

#

ok so one of the efis ones does work

#

that is at least something

empty gazelle
#

Yeah, but the others have the back light on

#

I've removed the breakout board and this is a FBW config because the ones i need are Fenix and they don't work!

rotund pulsar
#

and if you send values with the test function to the efis board, does that work, and if you try to send to the other boards, does that work?

#

put mobiflight to "stop" and the test toolbar is on the bottom of the output config dialog

empty gazelle
#

The other displays are connected but nothing happens just the one

rotund pulsar
#

I disconnected you from the voice channel as the mic just didnt work

#

hmm

#

lets see if @white cove has more ideas

white cove
#

The key here is to work out what’s different about the setup with the EFIS that’s working.

I can’t logon this weekend, with family, and I’m travelling next week as I already mentioned.

It’s working, and the EFIS is behaving as I’d expect. So, just need to dig into what’s different in the setup with that compared to the others.

rotund pulsar
#

@empty gazelle Let's simplify things.

I think what you really should do, since you are building panels and all anyway, and you likely are doing that also with MobiFlight, is to just start a fresh empty config with MobiFlight and experiment a bit. File > New and select the Output Configs tab on top. We got to learn how MobiFlight works in general, so you will be able to create your own configurations, which will be needed in the future anyway.

  • In the empty line type for example "FCU Speed" as the description, and then click the Edit button on the right.
  • Click the "Display" tab on top
  • On Display type select "Output device" and select your FCU lcd from your arduinos, something like this:
#

Select "Message Type", for example the "Show Speed / mach (STRING)

#

and I guess newer Kav displays use string (text) values instead of numbers, but you likely have some documentation as to what version yours is, pick either the (STRING) version and use the "Type : String" on the bottom test toolbar, or the legacy and use number, see which works

#

and then type in a value, and press "Test"

#

it should show a value there

#

if not, we have some issue we need to solve, but this is at least easier to narrow down when its not a huge config with a lot of configs

wind drum
#

What has been done that the EFIS is working now?
