The local library has a laser I can use, this panel would be an easy start.

Hey! I'm looking to build one of these, and I found all of the files and information on the GitHub. Do I need a PCB? The PCB file on GitHub is empty. Or can I just use the schematic and buy the parts to assemble with a breadboard or some other board? Thanks!

So good news, v3 is almost ready, just waiting for the latest version of the pcb to arrive for me to test and they will be available. Improvements include enhanced backlighting and latching korry’s as well as the option of purchasing a kit for a reduced price which you receive all the parts but assemble yourself (pcb just needs 5 included switches and 1 included rotary soldering on, the rest of the pcb is fully assembled). I’m hoping the pcbs will arrive this week and I can get these going in time for Christmas - and yes I intend to create an A380 config for them too 🙂

@cosmic mulch thanks! I've just started paying with Mobiflight and I'm excited to build a button box. Can it be done without a PCB? It'll be messy but a good learning experience

I expect so but you’d need to design your own korry caps and work out how to mount the rotary switch. Anything is possible with mobiflight

Ahh, are those items soldered directly to the PCB and that's how they're held in place? I have an IT background, and I understand the programming side of it, but I'm still struggling with the physical side a bit!

in the current design yes the pcb holds everything in place and takes care of the connections just requiring a USB to be plugged in

Are the new JSON files for the PCB for version 1 or 2? (I don't know of any tool to view the JSON files)

Those JSON files are for EasyEDA software. You can import them there.
By the way, JSON files are text files so those can be opened for example in Notepad or Notepad++. The later is highly recommended.

Thanks, I've used Notepad++ for over a decade. Not sure I'd want to decode the layout of pcb though!!!
