I'm trying to understand this thing from the point of view of someone designing a video game and I want to ask you:
What do you think the rationale of designing items with completely different use but with the same graphic is?

Things that absolutely make no sense:

  • not enough time or resources or brain
  • too much items
  • clicking items to check what is what is part of the game
  • "it is what it is"
  • "remember where you put stuff"
  • any workaround

it's fine, your topic will undoubtedly draw the wrong attention, but let's see where it leads, it is certainly not supposed to be here, you are not asking for help... finding flaws in the game and highlighting them is not what this section is for.

The ratio is they want to launch the product and have those assets so they use them.

Could get more assets done (which they gradually do). But the priority is new stuff rather than "fixing" the old stuff.

Perhaps originally they thought people will specialise more so those particular modules are most ok to share the visual asset.

Yes, "they" do a lot of things but I'm interested in explaining the specific case in the subject which is very simple and doesn't even need to name names

Regarding the idea of a "Minimum Viable Product", it makes sense and at some point the graphics of some modules has been updated/fixed but at some point Implants have been released and again the General Units have the issue I'm talking about

I don't remember whether the graphic of modules has been updated before or after the release of the General Units

Like, to be fair, they have the name everywhere, and even on the fitting screen, it shows the partial or most important part of the name anyway. I really don't feel like this is a big issue no?

It seems to me it is a miss on the development side when there are color schemes for the ship factions, data cores, and item specific builds (s, m, l, XL), but then for fitting modules the same sprite is used and do vastly different things.
