#pausing during fail-out sequence results in unwanted interruption

sometimes when i know i'm on the verge of failing, i want to quickly exit the chart and try again (or do something else). however, most of the time, i end up pausing after i fail. the game lets me pause during this period, but the failure animation soon takes control and kicks me out of the pause menu, forcing me to wait out the entire thing. specifically, the big "FAILED" text is what interrupts the pause menu

i'll see if i can upload a video shortly

yeah that happens to me too lol, but i don't believe it's a bug, it's just how it works

I mean, I'd argue this is more or less intended, it just triggers the animation. You don't have to wait anything out tho, just tap a bit to skip the animation.

honestly yeah I run into it way more often than I should lol

there's also no fail mode if you never want to deal with it

solemn ruin

it should be skipped anyway since internally the game already marked the run as a fail

  1. the way the animation cuts is certainly not intended. if the developers had considered this, they would've either disabled pausing during fail-out or actually properly handled pausing during this period, instead of abruptly intercepting the player's navigation of the menus. if it is intentional somehow, i think it's a little weird regardless
  2. repeatedly tapping to skip most animations is still a little too slow. the much shorter route is to simply click "restart" from pause menu, which i greatly prefer
#

i might just use nofail if there is a clear indicator of when i fail

#

and also, do i still get low health warnings when no-fail is enabled? i'm in a lecture right now, so i can't check at the moment

I'd have to test it to remember the exact behavior but just pressing Q and R quickly might avoid the animation I think

i see

#

that's a good enough indicator for me probably

Should be fairly easy when you've failed. If flashing suddenly stops after you blew a miss, then that's the no fail in effect

honest sentinel
#

does prematurely exiting (even after failing with nofail on) save the score?

#

the description of the setting is a bit vague from what i remember

#

it just says it "locks the score at where you failed", or something

#

but does that mean you have to finish the chart for the score to save? or it immediately writes the score once that failure point is hit?

errant trout
#

Nope, you would have to play to completion to submit the failed score and save the no-fail score

honest sentinel
#

ok

#

that's actually fire

errant trout
#

You could totally play to completion, and quit/retry before the results appear

honest sentinel
#

i mean, what action do they represent

#

i've screwed with basically everything

half ridge
#

Q opens the pause menu and R restarts the song

honest sentinel
#

oh okay

half ridge
#

double Q should quit out, dunno if that is fast enough to trigger tho

honest sentinel
#

i think i might've removed q from the pause binds

#

off the top of my head at least

#

whatever i'll find out later

#

thanks everyone

this fail-out interruption has been Extremely annoying to me at times mogucontent

#

there's ways to work around and bypass yeah but preferably I'd have it work in an intuitive manner

Finally got a fix for this!
