Discord is just persistent IRC.

I don't know what this means but I agree

I want to say IRC is Internet Relay Chat. Which I associate with old message boards myself so the persistent part confuses me as well. I could be associating IRC incorrectly.

Discord is IRC. Reddit are old message boards.

What do you mean by "old message boards"? That's what 'forum' refers to. IRC is not a forum or board. Have you never used it? It consists of channels that are signified with a # prefix, hosted by a network of servers within which channels are unique. I have wondered if that's where Discord users' usage of "server" comes from, because that's somewhat colloquial and not what this TJump space is actually called in the backend. If you read Discord API documentation, what you get invited to is a guild.

Some of the prompt commands are even the same as IRC.

@empty ermine closest I can think of is maybe teamspeak or some such having # prefix for some channels.

I really have to agree. I'm not sure what the utility is in allowing people to tack on useless additions to discussions that have already concluded.
