I have made this suggestion before in previous surveys (one kinda ruder than the last tbh, sorry), but I would really like to see completely new characters introduced in the game rather than remixed versions of existing ones. Not sure if ZUN would need to be involved or have to give his permission though. What does everyone else think?

The thing is, it's literally implied in the rules that posts suggesting new characters will actually be ignored, since it's stated that they're not looking for suggestion for that

If they're "not currently requested", then there's no chance, not even a small one. In that case, wouldn't it be better to suggest "new characters" if the rules change to actually state that they're accepting suggestions for this?

I don't mind recolors, they are kinda clever, gives them reason to how in fighting games 2 Marisas are fighting :P. Although koishi is a bad argument here. She is literally a recolor without even a new animation. She is different than reimu and Marisa because of her unoriginality and lack of story behind her existence and motives like the new beach units that are just a lame fanservice stretch. I would dislike seeing completely new characters in the game tho. How strong would they be? How would they be connected to other characters? They relationships? They couldn't just exist in a vacuum.

You Do Realize that we Can Just Have the Fan Characters in a Separate Universe Entirely Right? For Example, Keep Kaisendo Characters in Their Timeline, Etc.
Comparing the Otherwise Unoriginal Animations from Red Marisa, Black Youmu, to Blue Reimu Compared to the Mechas. It's a No Brainer. I'd Rather See More Original Units Like the Mechas and Even E9 Then another Reskin or Swimsuit.
I'm Not Going to Spend Actual Money For What Amounts to a Barely Qualifiable Reskin of an Existing Character ( FG Reskins and Swimsuits ). Then I Would a Totally Unique Take on a Character ( Mechas, Including Extra, English, etc ). Even the Retro Units are Stretching It as Far As Iam Concerned.

The post is kinda implying completely new characters (but not fan made). Not reskins that are mechas or E9. But something like new youkai or human. Which is very problematic and i personally think they would be out of place. Of course if the post is about new universes that still has original touhous but reskinned then that's always welcome. Connecting their personalities or relationships and putting them into some different story. Also keep in mind. We hate beach characters because there's literally nothing about them in the story for now. Which very much sucks, they should have waited and given them AFTER explaining their personalities, story and struggles because now they just look like a cash grab because bikini.

I mean I do, it’d be nice to see some new characters instead of barley changing the old ones. LW is about new things, new characters, new timelines, why not mix it up a bit? I’d rather have a completely new character then loli yukari

I can’t trust nn to make a brand new character and make it good, and it would be pretty out of left field at this point. At most they could make a character out of someone like Chang’e or something and that would be fine since that’s a real character without that much info though
This is a touhou game still, there’s plenty of other games to play if you’re tired of just touhou characters, there’s no need to shove it to everyone else

Im one of the people who play LW for touhou itself, seeing devs connect their OCs with already barely canon touhou stuff will make it even more awkward.
Also responding to message above, Chang'e is complicated because what if ZUN finally puts her somewhere and it will be totally different than NN's vision 😛 For now she is just a black blob behind the bars. IMO devs adding things that have little to no backstory and appearance in official lore may bring inconsistencies in the future. They should just stick to their thing that is putting characters in a different setting, since they do it well.
