"Knock-Offs" (insight upgrade)

"You can always choose between a Mark and its Brand variant, if it has one."

If we ever get more "Brand" relics based on the Mark relics, it would be great to have a new insight upgrade that, whenever a Mark or Brand is spawned, lets you choose which version of the relic you would like to take! Maybe it could do this by changing the relic icon to be a half-black half-red version of the icon, and hovering over it with either your left or right hand would show you the description and icon of either the Mark version or the Brand version if it does have a brand variant, and grabbing it with that hand gives you that version!

Glutton's Brand

"For a cost (food item), use to deal an amount of damage to ||(or maybe inflict poison on?)|| nearby visible enemies"

Perk — Damages (and/or maybe poisons) nearby enemies.
Drawback — Does not actually consume the food for the player, the food item is wasted.
(When it picks what food item on you to use, held food items would be prioritised over stored food items, and the held/stored food on the brand's hand would be prioritised over the other hand)
(Damage would scale with the quality of the food item used)

Messenger's Brand

"For a cost (slowness effect), use to dash a short distance"

Perk — Can be used multiple times in succession, maybe up to 3 or 5?
Drawback — Doesn't dash as far as Messenger's Mark, and each successive use without waiting out the temporary slowness effect stacks the intensity and duration of the slowness debuff. It would never be overall faster for traversal than just walking, to avoid people spamming it a ton to get around which would get super repetitive.
(Just to clarify, by "slowness" i don't mean the slow-motion effect that a couple of relics use, but rather the movement speed debuff effect like what one of the arena curses uses)

Haggler's Brand

"For a cost (keys), use to teleport to the area merchant"

Perk — Teleports to the area merchant without needing to rack up the wild 50 kills the Haggler's Mark requires. Could be used as a convenient teleport back to the merchant multiple times in the same floor if you have the keys to spare?
Drawback — Costs 1 (or maybe several? Could be based on luck?) key to use.

Innocent's Brand

"For a cost (protection heart), use to summon wisps"

Perk — Summons wisps to help fight enemies. Maybe these wisps could be special and deal more damage than normal due to being more costly to acquire than other methods, like Door Chime, Sheet Music, or Silver Chime?
Drawback — Consumes protection hearts, the amount of wisps spawned could vary depending on the type though, for example Tortured Heart = 2, regular protection heart = 4, other willful hearts = 6 (and maybe it doesn't trigger their special effects when it takes them away?)

Ignore what RER says hes wrong

#

I think this is an alright idea other than the fact that anarchist brand is OP 100% win rate if you get it for sure

#

so being able to just get it based off the regular one sounds op

Maybe instead of choosing, it now just has a chance to spawn like anarchist's brand and that could be for every mark eventually

#

Love the idea of more brands

Oh wow, if what the wiki says is correct that is indeed stupid OP, Primary Damage times Secondary Damage?? I sure hope that's a typo, at the cost of 4 coins that is crazy powerful for little to no drawback (also i kind of feel like 4 coins might be a bit cheap regardless?), it should totally be nerfed if that's the case 😅

# thin yacht Maybe instead of choosing, it now just has a chance to spawn like anarchist's br...

I originally had only thought of the first two brands with the intent of coming up with some more, but also people loooove marks, and brands would definitely be a very conflicting item for alot of people because of their drawbacks so i then came up with the insight upgrade idea, thinking it might make it far more tolerable for people since they then always have the option to try out a brand instead of a mark, but aren't forced to use them over the marks they're based on more often.

#

I do really hope the game gets more brands at least, if the insight upgrade wouldn't fly. And i also think it's important that the cost isn't always just money, i'm pretty happy with the related costs i came up with for these

No it's like that both have a chance of spawning separately

#

Like you could find the mark or the brand

I mean that's valid, but i still feel like it would be better to have an insight upgrade to combine them, it could remove the chance of brands spawning so it only ever spawns the choice version, which would make the drops feel a liiiittle less overpopulated by marks/brands if they ever add more, while still giving you just as much opportunity to get either

ooooo neat! I honestly reckon some of your evasion stat would be a good sacrifice for that, trading some of your chance to dodge enemies for a guaranteed strong hit? It could be good for confident/risky players who think they can do without evasion because they're good enough to not get hit!
I don't think it should be given back in any case though, i feel like brands should always be a sacrifice, not just a temporary debuff if it can be helped

It was either 3 enemies or I had another idea

That's just my opinion though, we only have the one real brand to go off of which doesn't really enforce it as a pattern or anything 😅

Creating a giant cleaving slash in front of you to instantly kill an enemy of your choice

(Or do a LOT of damage to a boss)

All the brand mechanics i went for in my suggestions up top were super close to the original mark's ability, as cool as a giant cleaving slash sounds, that's pretty different from what the Assassin's Mark does haha
