I don't have the full details on this but I am almost positive this was broken. I had a great run using the burlap blindfold and inadvertently got the Engagement ring. I would notice when I restored a save I would find I had a lot of protection, which I was almost positive I didn't have that much before the save. I am just guessing here that the ring is what is causing this.

this couldnt be an issue with engagement ring i believe
it directly checks your maxHP for how many prot hearts to give
so unless its doing its effect on loading a save AND it sees your maxHP as 3 hearts for that case, i dont see why this could happen
