I'm imagining gourd-ish slimes that resemble squashes and stuff. Cabbages could also be interesting due to their apparent historical use as fortune telling devices akin to an Ouija Board. Maybe pumpkins as replacements for the metal helmets worn by some slimes, light peeking through the shopkeep's door. There's a lot that could be done here.
