When you throw the knife, there's a little mechanic that forces the knife to go in the direction you're looking (I think?). Just add a setting to disable it so it's possible to throw the knife backwards.

It's most noticable if you have the 0g knife

The knife is coded in a weird way to make it move mostly forward
So no, it will not go backwards if you throw it backwards
Throwing it to the left and right is possible only because the knife is moving forward at the same time
Try it yourself :)
However, I don’t know if this is really necessary
Theres not a lot of practicality other than using this setting for trick shots
