Many games have a roll dodge mechanic, but in VR? Here's the gimmick. Rolling Mark, short cooldown, upside is dodging mechanic, downside is the camera rolls too. You get a chance to avoid incoming damage at the risk of potential motion sickness and disorientation if you overuse it. A souls player's best friend/nightmare. Do a barrel roll.

This is already in the game dude, but it’s a dashing thing. But it’s the same thing.
i agree
its essentially saying "rework the messengers mark to cause motion sickness"
Does it have invulnerability frames though? Dash also requires kills to recharge, not a cooldown
Some Marks have negative effects. I've only gotten a heart from Gambler's Mark one time, and lost half a heart a dozen times. The balance is a dodge that doesn't require kills to charge and has invulnerability frames, but using it makes you dizzy like dodging irl
Also Dash is worthless in boss fights if you can't recharge it, and that's when you want to dodge, especially during the beast fight
It just needs a downside for balance
a downside should be something in game not real life
if you don’t get affected by motion sickness this is gonna be op
if you do you’re gonna puke and not have a good time
How about a dizziness screen effect like Minecraft sickness
Then you get dizzy for sure
The more you use it, the more it stacks, like Binding of Isaac mushrooms
still tho would make you sick
if something in this game is too intentionally make you sick it’s gonna set a bad example for people playing
Fine, then how about a mechanic called "High Roller" where the icon is a spinning Casino Chip, and it costs coins to roll dodge instead of kills?
who would use this appose to messengers mark???
it does have invulnerability during the charge btw, and the enemy cooldown is always 1, so you can very easily chain them
Anyone in a boss fight where you can't recharge the dash, especially if you have glass cannon and can't avoid hits
Sometimes hits incoming are unavoidable
most boss fights have enemies in there boss fight to recharge your mark tho
Once
2, there are 2
merchant king slime beast rabid bestiary
If you could have a battery charge like Binding of Isaac to carry multiple charges for a mark, and save up like 5 dashes, then it would be useful in a boss fight
Otherwise messenger mark isn't useful in bosses
everything in the game is avoidable. i agree some attacks are poorly telegraphed but its not like you ever need to tank them, a roll would induce motion sickness, but its not like the bosses even have heavy forward momentum to push you into using anything akin to a dash, if the game were designed with that in mind, sure but its not really necessary
a lot of marks aren't useful in bosses, this isnt a bulletproof argument but its not like marks have to be useful in every single situation
I entered a new area off a jump down ledge yesterday with like 7 enemies charging and shooting at me, and there was no way I was avoiding all their shots and running at me. I nearly died. I don't think you can block most bullets with the sword. It was a bullet hell
Not enough space in the room to avoid them
also i would disagree the claim that messenger isnt useful in boss fights, the free hit on elder skeleton and beastiary is always nice, and being a free invulnerability pass is always applicable
when it comes to bullets there are only 2 types which you cannot deflect (bone slime, and abbarent rotten slime post death bullets being the 2 of them), but even then, the player always has the options available to them to survive, positioning and understanding enemy patterns pretty much makes you invincible
idk ive put well over 900 delves into this game, and hundreds of hours at this point, and i can safely say that there are like only 4 scenarios where you have less control than you should
the attack shared by the beastiary, elder skeleton and red elementals, but even then most of these are solvable with better telegraphing and hitbox fixing, and the purple elemental
Is this a case of laying on the ground irl to dodge? I could see that being easier if you decide to not be a seated player
oh yeah seated players exist, well this changes a lot regarding this convo, since playing seated majorily restricts your umm, everything, especially mobility and abilities to effectively position and manipulate enemy behaviour with sword and dagger strikes
I see now. The idea of a dodge mechanic sounds pointless, because a lot of you guys are playing standing in a room with enough space to dodge irl without hitting stuff
I'd have to move my whole PC to my living room
my playspace is small, like i can touch all boundries while standing in the middle, and considering how even the dev plays it, thats the playstyle the game is kinda made for
not that additions for seated can't be made
but the underlying assumption is that you're standing
Other than doom shrooms, maybe, when have you needed it for a boss?
Also, I do agree that it would be interesting to have timer based recharge instead of kills for this ability
Also, I agree the telegraphing can be pretty annoying
Especially in the beast fight in particular
You don't always need to duck to the side, anything you need to dodge can have the same effect if you duck and move the character themselves right/left
It's not as clean though
NG+++ in general. One shot game over.
If you can avoid them anyway, why take that over something like gluttony mark?
Idk man I haven't beaten NG+++ yet. I just figured someone desperate enough for invulnerability frames would take a downside with it just to survive when they're sure they're gonna get hit
Doesn't need to be dizziness, but if we got Messenger's Brand, then we could dodge with coins
That's what dodge is for
The damage avoidance mechanic literally everyone who gets through Ng+3 and onward has a good amount of
Are you just referring to physically doing a limbo duck irl dodge or something else?
Just squat or lower your head
Why in the hell would I limbo? I want my spine in one piece
I'm just saying that depending on the weight, age, and preference of a player, dancing around to dodge irl isn't always gonna be for them, especially after playing for hours to get to NG+++. You'll be dead sore and tired
I'd prefer to have Messenger's Brand tbh and just spend coins to dash
I've mentioned this before, each game has its player niche, no one can accommodate every player in any reasonable/functional way
