Melee weapon: Rapier/longsword. A longer, thinner version of the standard sword. Designed to be used more in a stabbing motion.

Projectile: Frisbee Shield. Can be thrown like the dagger but sideways rather than over/underhand, and it acts like a frisbee. While held in the hand, the shield has a large area that blocks projectiles and enemies just like if you put the sword out in front of you. Shield bashing pushes enemies away with force but deals no damage.

Opens some cool relic ideas too, like bouncing the shield off walls or things relating to the rapier's tip and stabbing motion.

#

Few ideas of new relics for the shield:

  • Rubber Shield: The shield bounces off one wall. Can be collected multiple times.
  • Tower Shield: Shield turns into a huge rectangular tower shield but is significantly slower when thrown.
  • Trick shot shield: Shield when thrown is no longer always horizontal. It throws at whatever angle it's held and will veer left/right depending on angle.
  • Shield Spikes: Large spikes sticking out of the shield increase the distance you can keep enemies away, and adds damage to your shield bash.
  • Boomerang Shield: When it kills an enemy, the shield will immediately fly toward a nearby enemy.
  • Shield on a rope: Shield returns to your hand much quicker, but maximum distance from you is limited. Need to check it can still hit the final boss.
  • Magnetic Shield: Shield now floats in front of the hand, allowing you to keep enemies further away. It automatically sucks in coins from a larger distance.

New Relics for the Rapier:

  • Fencing Grip: Rapier deals more damage when you stab with it instead of swiping.
  • Ghost Rapier: The tip of the rapier increases in size significantly, but the shaft becomes ethereal or disappears and can't hit anything. You have to hit at a large enough distance.
  • Fencing Mask: Gain brief invulnerability when you reflect an attack or stagger an enemy.
  • Poisoned Tip: Rapier deals poison when you hit something with the tip.
  • Thin Blade: Rapier gains increased critical chance on the tip but can no longer reflect projectiles. It becomes thin.
  • Fencing Lessons: Increases rapier damage but you can no longer have the shield out at the same time as the rapier.
  • Flexible Blade: Rapier deals more damage but can no longer harm slimes.
  • Vampire hilt: Small chance of healing half a heart when killing an enemy with a stabbing motion.

Rapier or saber since thrusting motions that can do damage are probably hard to put together

And I’m imagining the shield looking like a full-plated chakram

Yeah for the shield I'm thinking like a plated chakram style weapon or like captain america's shield, that should be pretty intuitive for people. For the sword I was suggesting rapier because stabbing motions aren't currently possible and it would be an interesting change to have a weapon that could both swipe and stab, but if stabbing is impossible then simply a standard sword or a longsword that's longer and thinner with a few unique relics would do the trick.

Wait you telling me that you don't throw knives like frisbees? I kinda just fling it and don't give a crap about the angle
