if you pull back your knife while its on the ground the knife stays in place while you move to it
(if you are stopped for more then 3 seconds then the knife comes to you)

in all seriousness, it says you can wait for 3 seconds, and even then it's only if it's on the ground

it could also work when imbedded in walls or ceilings but then you'd be able to get back across "one ways" (i have no idea what they're called I've been completely disconcerted from the community)
