#Twitch Studio Fails To Launch

I'm running Twitch Studio v0.110.21 on Mac v10.14.6 Mojave.

I've been using Twitch Studio and the same setup without issue for most of this year, but it won't launch today. I attempt to open it as normal, and in admin mode, both of which have the same issue. I've also reboot my computer to no avail.

When I launch the software today, I get an error message indicating that TwitchStudioAgent quit unexpectedly. From what I can tell, I have the most recent version installed, so I'm not sure what the issue could be.

I have a crash report I can share if that helps, but wanted to see if anyone else has reported any similar issues with it today.

@swift meadow @proud frigate Would you both mind submitting bug reports?

#

Also, would you mind confirming the issue persists after restart?

The issue persists today, my computer was off all night.

#

I've rebooted, run the software as admin, made sure it's added to my firewall to allow connections, etc. It just worked on Saturday, then it didn't work on Monday.

@swift meadow did you happen to submit a bug report though the app UI?

swift meadow
#

Nope, it won't let me. When I click that button, nothing happens. It clicks like a button, but it's broken.

#

I tried installing a second instance of Twitch studio, but it failed also. I didn't do a full uninstall of the existing instance, just installed a second copy along side it, though. Maybe something in my app files is broken and I need a full reinstall, but it seems like that would wipe out my scenes and I'd have to set everything up again, which I didn't want to do without troubleshooting first.

I see, after checking with our Mac devs I noticed Twitch Studio supports Mac version 10.15 and later.

swift meadow
#

I've been running it on Mojave 10.14 since February without issue. In some places on the site it says 10.15, other places it says 10.14.

#

The issue with 10.15 and above is that with that version it removed support for 32-bit applications, which breaks around 30 games I own on Steam, so I'd prefer not to 'upgrade' since it'll break a bunch of my games.

#

I didn't notice a version update for Twitch Studio between Saturday and Monday, so why would it just stop working without warning?

grizzled crag
#

We needed to update our packages to support the new os13.

swift meadow
#

So it's just officially not compatible with 10.14 anymore, and I'm out of luck? No more streaming?

Ugh, how to troubleshoot if I can't tell you where something is wrong at?

Weird that it says I can't send a link from the actual Twitch forums when attempting to troubleshoot with Twitch Studio support... Anyway, what I attempted to say is that the help pages need to be updated because it still says 10.14 Mojave there, as opposed to the download page which says 10.15 Catalina. I'll just screenshot the url instead.

#

The other issue with that is that even the installer in the dmg file shows as compatible for install. Here's an example of the 'valid' Twitch Studio installer vs the current OBS installer, which is not compatible. So that needs to be fixed too if the devs are correct in saying they just silently stopped supporting 10.14 Mojave

#

If it's truly incompatible, then Mojave should have a 🚫 symbol over it to not allow the installation.

#

Different question: If the current version isn't compatible with Mojave anymore, and we weren't given warning of the auto update that broke it for us, can we have access to the version prior to this one so I can still stream? That's how the likes of obs do it, they have a github archive of previous version people can run as-is without being concerned about future updates.

Thanks for the call outs! Getting the help articles looked into now.

#

@rotund phoenix mind creating a ticket for the installer work?

swift meadow
#

So a huge question I have is why was the update not aborted when it realized I was on Mojave? All compliant macOS apps are supposed to check before updating, and if they need an higher version than yours the update is aborted. That's common behavior on macOS.

#

If that would have happened, I'd still be on the previous version and it might still work.

#

Instead it just auto updated (I assume because you didn't change the minimum requirements in the code, so it thought it was fine to update), and now I'm stuck and can't stream. I missed a stream last night, and looks like I'll miss tonights stream too while I try to configure OBS or Streamlabs for something that has just worked for months.

#

Audio routing on Mac is a nightmare, which is why I used Twitch Studio. It was simple and auto captured my audio through the default audio channel. Through the other programs mentioned, I have to route my audio through something like Blackhole, which ruins the audio output quality and I don't know how to fix that. I just need simple Twitch Studio back where I can just click the stream button and stuff works.

so thats it then, we just have to move onto something else? This is crazy guys

Seems that way, they stopped responding. I'm going to have to switch to another software and hope I can get audio routing through Blackhole to work right, I guess. I'm about to miss a second stream tonight because of this, which is a huge disappointment. Either that or update my OS so that Twitch Studio is compatible... but then about 30 games I own on Steam will stop working. Either way it's a lose/lose situation for me.

Hey! I'm having the same issue. So from what I understood is that there's nothing we can do about it?

#

Or when I update my computer it will work again?

rotund phoenix
#

@chrome laurel it will work if you upgrade into macOS 10.15 or later.

Thank you!

So I can't do anything unless I update my laptop with already very finite storage with a hefty software update? Yea looks like i'm just not going to be using twitch to stream ever again 🙂

#

Does anyone have any alternatives that they've found to work like twitch studio on mac?
