I have lost games with insane indoor defense setup and won games with it. Totally depends how smart the enemy is at handling them. Of course if they just rush the house and dont even take the pitchers out, they are hurting a lot. You can actually take out traps from range with eggs btw.
If your teammates are putting them in "bad" places, just tell them. It is a team game after all.

lol every game i say put pichers in the house 1000 times and they always just put them in the garden, so frustrating

that is unlucky, but I guess every player learns with time what is better and even so, a hidden pitcher in the yard saved me many times ;P

i dont exactly hate the idea of putting them inside, i just feel its a lot more broken to have a bunch inside
as in its unwinnable if you dont have pitchers and the enemy does

Pls dont punish skill, i had Games with super skilled Defense Players with 10 pitchers on the last Item but we just outsmarted them and won anyway. Maybe just make the Baseball bat Not only accessable from Drops but buyable and unlockable with 9 crates. With that you could Counter the pitchers
