When you ping something it should be circled for everyone. Holding middle mouse should be communications that normally be used for mutes.

There is a game that has a good pinging system i really cant think of it off the top of my friend. I legit ping something and the icon shows up and if i mouse over it as an observer it will show what it is. I totally forget though

+1 Since not everyone uses voice chat, having a detailed ping system that lets anyone communicate effectively without mic is usually an excellent alternative.
