I know i should have thought of this early as the big trip to Norway is like next month but I just think it would be cool to have a nice big cozy cloak to go walk around the lands of the Vikings at.
I've made a ruana cloak(barely) before and almost finished a canvas sleeveless peasant tunic to pare with it for Halloween(it's done now)

Here's a very indecisive sketch of this cloak :D.

edit: i probably won't make it in time but even then I'll still learn a couple things. thanks for your advice :}

https://youtu.be/tsf7xelILa4?si=CHEDX3xzAsgKtJ5l I have made a cloak following this video, and I used a fleece as the outer layer, and a silk-ish material for the inner, I can remember the exact material for the inner

I made a circle cloak without pockets - the kind that acts as a second blanket without your life falling all over the tent as you sleep.
The wool I got hold of didn't need lining, getting the hemline to fall evenly is the hardest bit, someone else helping to get a staightline is really helpful. Deciding on length is hard - no longer than ankle high or it will drag in mud, If you are fighting, running, walking on rough ground make it shorter for safety.

My issue with putting pockets in a cloak is that if anything too heavy is in those, it will affect how the cloak drapes and moves and could impede your movement. If things got heavy enough, it could even be a strangulation risk because the cloak will pull against the wearer's throat. A few small pockets for lightweight items would work well, but I know if I put my phone in one it would slap into me with every step unless the cloak fabric was very heavy (and that means less fun drape.) Belt pouches are as common as they are because they move less and are better for carrying objects as a result.

Also wanted to mention that a full circle cloak is going to be huge. My half circle cloak is more than capacious enough for all the things that I seek to use it for.
