wasn’t sure if this was the right channel but i wanted to sew this vintage curtain over the inner lining of my carhartt detroit jacket to add both style and a little warmth this winter but i also have only ever hand sewn smaller projects, i do have a sewing machine and understand the basics but wasn’t sure on going over the current lining rather than replacing it, just looking for a little advice

Do you have the skill to make a lining as an independent item?
If so make it on your machine, hem the cuffs, neck and waist. Then handstitch with a whip stitch in place. Then you can remove it easily to reinstate the original or possibly for laundry
ok so will def be doing some research, on how to properly copy the original lining but i wouldn’t need to remove it as the curtain is super thick and has been washed multiple times without any wear and tear so what would be a more permanent hand stitch
Whip stitch would be my go to. The stronger backstitch would need to be on the inside, which you can so for sleeves and cuffs, before turning out and whipping the waist, but unless you are hard on your clothes it's probably not necessary
i am unfortunately and often very harsh on my clothing to that’s very helpful
GG @vestal dock, you just advanced to level 3!
