I made the dagger out of 1095 steel. It is the first one I have been able to complete. The sheath is my first leather working project since childhood. Could be better but I am extremely happy about having finished it, and what I learned in the process.

That will do! Looks better than my first blade. That peculiar, water droplet texture on the minimally ground surfaces indicates that the steel was over heated, or left in the forge fire too long, or you had excess air blast in the fire. The concern worthy effect is that some significant bit of the carbon content has been burned out; at least near the surface. You will want to try to avoid that on the next one. Admirable start though. Keep at it!

Yeah I had to try to quench it multiple times before the file would skate. Unfortunately I had ground the edge in too close to finished dimensions and burned the edge off. Which meant for it to be symetrical I had to alter the profile.
