Hi friends!! So I have been struggling with this brainstorm for a little while now and for the life of me I cannot find anything helpful online. I would love to be able to record these events without breaking immersion, which means I need to disguise my phone/camera. I found one instance of someone hiding their phone in a super decked out staff so it wasn’t visible and that was it.
I want to find a way to inconspicuously hide my phone (or even a small camera like a GoPro or something) on my costume, preferably hands free, but I can’t think of anything that wouldn’t heavily muffle the sound or pick up clothing noises (like if it was clipped onto my belt or something)
I’m willing to try anything and work out some ideas with the rest of you, cuz I cannot be the only person who wants to capture these memories, especially as someone who struggles recalling things and with thick brain fog.

I was thinking about something like this recently, I'd settled on a book if I got around to it.

A fake leather bound journal, you could even do up a stylus as a quill. You'd just need openings in the right spots, nest your phone inside, make sure to give it some decent airflow or keep it open when in use.

Something like the standard "book" stash/hideaway box with a few extra holes.

Visually, you're just transcribing the events into a journal with your quill.

You can also probably get a Bluetooth recording microphone that you can have relatively hard to spot outside of whatever case you use for recording if you wanted to go with more of a worn item.

You just have bad eyesight, so you have to hold it up to your face sometimes

There are some very small cameras on the market these days. Bore sight and snake cameras, for example. The challenge will be getting them to work in costume. Audio recording would have to be a separate device, but that should be less of a challenge.

Oooh yes I’ve considered that too!! I’ve also looked at body cams that are all in one but they’re just soooo bulky and obvious.
Record time, battery life and quality may be a bit of a struggle to find something decent BUT I do think it would be the best way to go about it >:3 thank you so much! TBH I haven’t thought of combining a tiny camera and a separate mic, I was fixated on an all in one system for some reason XD ^^;;

If I remember when I get off work, I'll post a link to a video I see a while ago that solved this issue. I think it was my Hazariel Atelier on YouTube, but I can't find it on my phone.

I might go try and see if I can find it

OH WAIT if you’re talking about the big camera box she wore then yes I’ve seen that!! But that’s SUPER bulky and hides my entire torso when in use TwT

#

I might be able to make a staff that will hold and hide my phone but that’s such a big prop TwT I might be able to make a belt pouch of sorts that holds and hides my phone but just leaves the camera exposed and connect a Bluetooth mic to my phone

#

Everything might be at hip-level but it’s better than nothing for sure

#

I’m always looking for more ideas tho so if anyone has any plz lmk :D

I have considered ways to mount micro cameras in a helmet, pointing out the face opening. Haven't found a workable solution to that yet, but please experiment with it.

Could use this, punch holes for the camera, then hang it from your neck like a medicine bag, that would solve the hip level problem as well

Here's my phone case/wallet for in-character adventures. It looks like a wax tablet used for writing which would be heated, smoothed, and reused once full of writing. I used my broken old travel chess board, which I skinned, sanded, and shellacked. The case is wood and has a magnetic closure. I even drilled holes in the chess pieces and used them for toggles for another project. No waste! The elastics hold my phone and wallet innards. The third photo is an extant example for comparison.

So i have zero experience in this plus have never thought about how to do this but reading the comments what if.....you had a staff or animal skull somewhere on your garb that would hold a camera/phone/lavmic...like a fake parot on your shoulder that has a camera or just any other fantasy creature

Definitely possible, if you have the skills to make whatever you want on your shoulder all day.
