So me and some friends are planning to try to do our own mini LARP style camping trip. Like a LARP but just one DND party. And I’m trying to come up with a basic story and quest for the party to go on. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for something like that or has done something similar before?

I think it could be looking for help with a project… it wouldn’t likely be combat encounters if it’s just the party so I’m thinking there are a couple ways you could play it depending on where it fits into your party’s journey…
If it fits into the existing campaign a couple options could be:

a) travel between two locations for the campaign, where players have to rest, cook, and take turns on watch as their characters would, rousing the others if they would be encountering any kind of single monster threat they may face (I’d pick something you’d feel badass playing as the dm)

B) could be a survival training situation where you acted as an instructor NPC and they could gain an additional bonus to their survival checks in game later if they pass enough of the tasks (this would also be cool because players who are actually good at survival things could gain an in game bonus for things like knowing how to start a fire without a lighter or matches, or by building a shelter without a tent, or identifying wild edibles)

C) you could be a noble, merchant or some other NPC requiring safe escort from one town to another and it’s the party’s responsibility to get you out of the camping trip alive (this is probably the best for you, because you could play spoiled and make them all make food for you and treat you like a king 😂😂😂)

D) you could go “for a walk” and hide something that they have to find that could be a clue to the main story line of your campaign

E) you could just treat it as R&R for the party if they’ve had a particularly rough session prior to the trip, the members drinking, carousing and consoling after a hard battle, rehashing critical moments, fondling retelling their favourite moments or even sadly remembering lost NPCs can also be cathartic for the players and the DM

Hope this helps, thought of more than I thought I would lol

I really like the nobles escort idea. One of my partners is planning to play some form of royalty so I think that would fit nicely. Thank you for this it was very helpful for me

Just for future reference. Would this be the right place to ask questions similar to this or is there a better place?

Ok. I joined today so I’m just trying to get as much info on where to ask what as I can. Thank you for your help

Maybe you could make a journal for every character where their previous adventures were noted and every day they would flip the next page which would contain some bits and pieces of their story and individual quests that they should get done for the day.

You don't have to write a novel, but maybe a few paragraphs that each player would get in the evening that they should read to prepare for the next day. You can also put stuff like "While making breakfast for the rest of the party, your mind is occupied with the nightmare you had last night". That way you are giving them tasks (make breakfast) and then you can describe the dream in more detail that would push their story further, but still leave some space for role playing.

You could maybe make envelopes they you would give to each player every day or make a small book with all that stuff with stickers that won't tear the paper over the text that they can remove every day so they don't have any spoilers for the full story and later they can combine them at the end into a miny-journal of the adventure they had
