First time tanning

so we are gonna be processing one of our rabbits tomorrow (we're starting to breed meat rabbits) and I want to learn how to turn their hide into leather but I am overwhelmed on where to start. I know that the more accessible ways would be veggi tan or brain tan. any advice or recourses would be great

You can use egg white as well to tan the hide if need be. Brain tanning is what I used as a child because every animal has enough brains to tan its own skin.

Remember boil the brain before you mash it and slather it in to the skin on the inside. Really work that brain goo in to the skin.

first: age/sex of the rabbit will effect quality.. older bucks have the best pelts but are hardest to skin

if processing at normal meat age (8-10 wks) the pelt will be too thin to use.. prime is usually right after the intermediate molt (6-7 months)

if it's molting is a leather not a fur as the fur will not stick

Interesting info, I appreciate it. I know she'll be over 5 months, don't remember exact age but she's severely bullying our other doe so we can't wait much longer. So she'll be somewhat in the middle of that range
