Decided to combine leather working and wood working skills to make a chess set that can fit onto a belt or bag. The pieces were inspired by a set I found after following some links in a Living Anachronism video, and made from som scrap wood I had around. The board is drawn on the inside of the carry bag with paint markers.
I learned quite a bit, especially with the wood. I’ll probably make another set over the holiday break.

The second, Hnefatafl, Viking ancestor of chess, a strategy game where the central pieces must defend themselves from attacks from the sides.

My daughter and I had the opportunity to play “Viking chess” (I can neither spell nor pronounce the proper name) at a LARP last month and it was a cool game. I’ll have to figure out the other one and play it too.

In France the name "nine men Morris" is translate to "nine knights" according to the translations
