I am just getting back from the Ren Fair in Tuxedo NY. But the leather armor/ coat that I was wearing's top half is now soaked in sweat... to the point that you can see the water discoloration. Attached is the picture i took just before leaving for home, which shows the discoloration.
What I want to know is if I just let it dry will it distort/ discolor? I did have a shirt on under the coat, but it just wasn't enough. I worry about is that it will get crunchy as currently the leather is rather supple. (I do not know the proper terms for leather unfortunately, and am fully willing to learn, teach me please.)
I am also looking for advice on how to spiff up/ accessorize this costume, I use them as a character in the LARP I go to, and I feel that just the coat is not enough for the character. I was thinking of adding a belt to the outside of the coat but I didn't know if that was a bad idea or not...
Any advice on either topic is much appreciated.

Have you tried washing the leather? You can use a soft brush and dawn dish soap. Then you can rub some conditioner like Hubberds shoe grease or even coconut oil to make the leather soft again. It may not be as soft as it was when you made it, but it wont get crunchy or stiff.
I'd wash the outside and the inside. You can also get saddle soap or a glycerine soap. The shoe kit section at Walmart should have a soft brush - it has a circle head and black bristles.
Then add conditioner.
Gall soap or leather soap should fix that right up and after some leather balm
If you want a good leather cleaner Murphy’s oil soap washes leather and keeps the oils in it helping the leather
Once you've cleaned it (and let it thoroughly dry) maybe add a waterproofing treatment before you wear it next? It should make it a bit easier to keep clean moving forward.
In terms of sprucing it up, I think adding a belt would really enhance the costume. To me it looks more like a surcoat than a coat as such, and they are typically worn tucked under a belt, so it should work well and fit the aesthetic. You could also add some pauldrons relatively easily, and some vambraces/bracers would balance it well. I would suggest a gorget, but with the wolf head I think you'd possibly lose that under the fur unless you tucked the fur in around the neck, which could detract from the "wolfy" look...
I LOVE the coat, BTW...
Hey um I know you are asking about costume design help but umm did you make the head for your costume or did you buy it? If bought where did you get it from?
