Is Worbla one of those things you don't want to get the generic brand, or no?

I haven't had any issues using non-worbla brands, have tried 2 other types and both were fine

#

you can still use the same shaping & finishing methods on all of them

#

think of it as the difference between facial tissue and Kleenex; it's the same stuff, one is just the brand that became the name for the thing, whether through first-to-market or better advertising

Gotcha. I don't want to spend more than I have to on materials, but sometimes there is no replacing the big name brand. Sometimes.

true, there is a quality component, but it's hard to figure out which one is actually good until you use a few

And if I mess up with the less expensive stuff, I have more money to get it right next time!

thermoplastics are generally forgiving, can remelt and remold

I plan to try to make Edward Elric's automail. If anyone has advice I would be very grateful!

I recommend paper prototypes to get the size and fit right, works best if you have some thick paper and use brads as temp rivets to hold things together

no problem!

I've only used Thibra (small project) and some no-name stuff I found at an outlet store, but they don't stock it anymore

Kydex is another good option that is widely used and a staple in an industry.

Kydex is a little more difficult to work with though than something like warbla etc...

@abstract condor Sorry if this is slightly unrelated, but I found 3d printing files for Ed's arm, and even if you don't have a 3d printer, you can use it as a reference for what the individual pieces would look like. Here you gohttps://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2819729
