#GPS DONT GET SATELLITES
273 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
since we last spoke in #help-and-support
what have you done so far?
yo
okay, the last thinghie of yesterday was go outside and try to get some satellites
the problem of today,,, when i tooked the car for go the my site of fly
the gps literally didnt work
so nothig to try
there is
i arrived to home, i conected to betaflight
and now i dont have the logo of the gps
so, i think better start from 0 now
in short, it's not powering up or not being detected...
and go step by step, i did it so many times whit videos of youtube but not work
do I need to tell you to check wiring and all?
so now maybe whit ur experience can u fins the issue
ill go post picture, 1 sc
so you've not checked wiring yet despite that being the most obvious?
i think it is powered cuz the led work,,,
no no, i checked its all okay
but for explain to u better, i think is better check from the step 0
to the end to find where can be the problem, i did it like 10 times, but i cant find the issue,,, for that i was saying yesterday maybe i should update the firmware cuz,,, i cant find the issue
so okay, focus, i go disband the drone and ill go take a picture of the soldering
it go take to me like 2-3 mins. and also @quartz apex sorry for my english not is my first language, and thx so much for help all this days, im very apreccieated whit ur help 🙂
don't complicate things:
- wire gps to a vacant uart, tx goes to rx, rx goes to tx, 5v to 5v, gnd to gnd.
- configure ports so that GPS is active in the correct uart, set baud rate per gps spec
- tweak GPS settings in Configuration Tab, defaults should be fine for starters.
- Take it outside, power it up.. get sat lock
yeah, i did it,,, exactly for that is why im getting estressed is so easy, i did it like 3 times all the proces
but nothing
do you still have the old gps unit? try that again..
both gps are shit, but i think the tbs is better no?
or, instead of using the plug, solder the wires directly to the pads on the GPS unit
how can you say the TBS gps is better?
because TBS?
these are exactly the same, just rebranded shit
I was using before this conector
But desperately i quites and did it soldering
For try get better connection
if the gps units have pads, use the pads.. and solder the wires directly, on both sides
if there's no pads, make sure the pins in the connectors aren't bent
In process of disband
1 min
Btw, it is good or its a bad idea? Btw what is the name in english of that red thing?
zip tie..
it's not a good idea..
you'd want them separated.
the receiver and the vtx.. more so if your VTX heats up so much..
(even though the receiver has a tcxo)
yes
TX transmits while RX receives
so its okay
could be better
the soldering not is perfect but i think not is the issue right?
it's "not yet" an issue, until those extra exposed wires short out
okay 2-5 mins, i go quit and do it again
wait, maybe i shoul try to put in another port?
only strip out insulator as big as the pad the wire will go to.. there should be no extra conductor exposed..
uart1 is perfect and specifically alloted for a gps
and there's really no other spot for it other than uart2
hold up.. how do you have wired your VTX?
isn't that in uart3?`
what's on uart5?
is on uart 3 the VTX
IN THE PORT 5 REAceiver
(instead of VTX pad)?
one sec i go cut the zip tie
"Smartaudio/Tramp" should go into TX3, Video should go into VTX pad/pin
which in that case you cannot use uart3 for the GPS
uart 4 should be vacant..
okay step by step, i should change the VTX soldering?
Video should go into the VTX pin if you haven't yet..
actually is , VTX IN AURT 3
receiver in UART 5
Smartaudio/Tramp pad on the VTX should connect to the TX3 pin
if you want to move the GPS into another uart, then UART4 should be vacant
and you haven't connected the smartaudio/tramp pin of the vtx to the TX3 pad/pin?
then uart3 can be used by the GPS
yes
so, ill go do the solderin of gps again, i will try to do perfect...
From 1 to 10? Score?
6? 7?
now i should put batery and check if in betaflight it appears right?
or I'm being generous?
a lot, i think it is 3-4
then you should've done better.. 😄
the problem is im noob, poor and unexperienced, so i dont have good material for do it better and it is a 6-7 is my situation, but for one profesional it es 2-3
use flux and leaded solder, 350degC on the iron..
tin pads, tin wires, cut to length.
melt solder on pad, dip in tinned wires, solder melts on wire, remove iron
i have a problem whit the flux
if i put much, i will conect the 4 in one
xd
but yes, i will try
i go use flux now
bro my solder dont have any button is just conect and do it xd
then invest in a good one.. something you'd only buy once and use in a long time
i will try do my best soldering for show u my interest u.u
okay, 1 hour later,,, enough not perfect, but i didnt stop try it
i think i let it worst than before
It is how actually looks, i changed the ground
YOOOOO
SOLVEDDDDD
Im getting satellites now
@quartz apex !!!
maybe was the black wire the issue?
Also say, it was working full disbanded and the gps far away of all the other things, i will do another test full arm. I read in some forums the gps need to be very far of the other components
ground is ground.. so it doesn't really matter which ground pad it's on..
it's a different matter if something is shorting to ground, like say, the TX1 pad..
or if the TX1 pad is shorting with the RX1 pad..
with say a tiny sliver of solder..
antennas of different devices should be separated from each other.. even though they are different frequencies.
the GPS being the biggest antenna (in area) will be better off unobstructed physically or rf-wise is better
Print it in TPU Only!
This is my holder, the geometry follow the frame.
Gps is locked in by two teeth, so you don't need to screew or tie anything.
Antenna is tilted at 35° degrees.
There are two version, one is without space for gps connector, so you need to solder the cable directly on gps pin.
Designed for eachine tyro 7 inch (129).
Designed ...
i ordered this piece, in 1 hour i can install it
how i should build now the dron? where i shoul put the receiver and the antennas?
the antennas, you can zip tie to the arm
i have antenas diversity, thx to ur post i know only 1 works
if you set it to diversity mode, then both will work
so i have to configure it? to make it true diversity?
BETAFPV SuperD ELRS is the first True Diversity Receiver that applies two antennas, dual receiver chains, and TCXO (temperature compensated crystal oscillator) tech, achieving a super accurate frequency rate and excellent performance in extreme temperature environments. It offers 2.4GHz and 915MHz/868MHz versions, and
868 mh
then it's a True Diversity receiver
set it to Diversity via the lua script
on my controller?
(more so if your TX has only one antenna)
yes
yes.. that's where the lua script is
tx and rx should be bound before you can access the parameters/settings for the receiver
yes.. you cannot have both internal and external modules active at the same time and working in tandem
and the internal module on the x9 is also 2.4GHz, not 868
ExpressLRS -> Other Devices -> Receiver Item -> Ant. Mode
i dont have that option
is the rx and tx bound/connected?
Btw i should configure it also
in the ExpressLRS Lua Script, is there a C in the top right corner?
your arm switch is once again in the High/active position
CH5/Aux1 at the High (2000us, +100) is Armed..
should be good to go now..
leave it as is
ye i was whit it on, now is disarmed
yes
ahhh btw also this morning i was flying all the time whit the allert of the rsi dmb
shoul i quit from the osd?
is your RSSI dBm still at -130 value?
what value did you set the warning to be? or you didn't change it per the guide I have linked for you before? for about two times now..
btw whitout gps like this morning im afraid of test the limits of my dron
dont send again i wil check it again
until here , my tdha was on after that : s sorry
done
i setled is for fast refresh of data
200 and 1:2
i did all except this
i think it is for people who dont want info in excess right?
so after all that, you still missed this?
If you wish to enable the RSSI dBm warning, you'll have to change the alarm level using set osd_rssi_dbm_alarm = -100 in CLI. A sensible value is 5-10 higher than the sensitivity shown in the ELRS.lua for the packet rate (e.g. 250Hz=-108, so -103 to -98 for the alarm).
as this is my main concern really..
that's all I wanna know
what alarm level did you set your dbm to be?
on my way
should i change the value
set osd_rssi_dbm_alarm =100
like this¿
done
is a bug in the page, is whitout "-"
that's because you have an older betaflight firmware
oh
more things... about the sounds
oh no no, i will configure the gps rescue now
why so many differents?
which one i should download?
750?
you should be using the betaflight configurator, firmware flasher section
select your board..
BEFORE you flash, save a backup of the current configuration.. via the CLI diff all command
what ? i have to flash?
what are you doing exactly?
you're on the firmware download page.. so I'm thinking you intend to flash the firmware
(of your flight controller)
no, i want to update the betaflight
here's my advice: DO NOT update your betaflight firmware.. for now at least
yes.. and that requires FLASHING the updated firmware
i just want to put gps rescue mode in my drone, so for that i need betaflight 4.4 right?
what firmware version do you have on your drone?
which has some older form of GPS Rescue
even if i dont flash i want to do it now, is just that ? click here and save right?¿
you're not in the CLI tab
read that note at the bottom
yes
done
i dotn know, why u recomend to not get 4.4?=
- because you do not know what you're doing yet.
- because you haven't really flown your drone
how many times have you flown your drone at what distance/range?
have you so far enjoyed your drone?
like 10 times , at maximum 500 meter today, i didnt know well cuz my gps as u know not was givin data
ye but i have a problem, actually i dont know why but i enjoy more solving things than flying , actually im flying but whit fear cuz i dont know the limits of my drone yet, but im on this way
as u know im noob, but im so dedicated...as u can see,,, whit my issues of noob,,, but dedicated
here's a scenario for you:
you update your drone... but because you don't know what you're doing, you now have an unflyable drone..
you try and get it sorted out, again.. and now you can't enjoy the drone you've already put time in..
you get frustrated because the drone you worked so hard so far on is not flying.. and you're at it again trying to fix it..
Cool if you can figure it out by yourself..
but then if you can't you would abandon it altogether.. and just move on.. never to pick it up again.
so my advise is to find enjoyment out of it, even just for a little bit..
enjoy the fruits of your labor so far
@quartz apex maybe u find so many people in that escenario cuz they follow just videos whitout understand i can be that guy,,, i can bea ignorant and just fly as it do and be happy like a kid,,, but i want to configure it well
im trying to improve the maximum possible
im not afraid if my drone dont fly
this is my first drone,, my frankesitein
it is for learn
in the moment of fuck this i go buy another,,,something of this year
this drone is of the year 2016 maybe,,,
So learn.
Learning takes time.
if you cram all the things all at once, you'll get overwhelmed
actually i think i can hold it
u dont trust on me for update the firmware :c
if i have the backup, why it is so risk?
I started 2020-21.
used the majority of 2020 being locked down, studying the hobby, waiting for parts.
2021, still in lock down, still waiting for parts, sim training. still learning.
got some parts, started building, still studying..
still learning
and still learning, 'til now
bro in the life we never stop of learn
because you're updating from a very old firmware version
about all
until you die
the changes from what you currently have vs the current version is MASSIVE.
and might as well start from scratch..
i.e. not use the backup and have it as just backup (so if ever you felt you can't configure the new firmware, you can reflash the old version you currently have and set your backup for it)
you seem to have figured things out on your own.. so GL..
I'm stepping away..
nooo :c
im just showing like other guys are updating also the tyro129, and it is working, i mean is very old... but it have updates
I never said it won't work..
what I'm not sure is if YOU can make it work on your own without hand-holding..
IF you think you can update it without my intervention, go ahead..
going slow and whit patience and ur experience + youtube i think i can do it
about ho much time can take update the firmware?
how is my experience in the equation? should I send invoice now?
mate, I'm not here for the money..
but sure ain't hired for one-on-ones.. 🙂
what can i say,, i just want to show u of im interested in this hobby i want to learn the maximum posible, is better if i fuck one drone of 2016 than a new drone
where i should learn to update a firmware in a new drone of 200-300$ ? whit the risk of fuck it? or in one drone of 150$ ?
ill go get info about update, and probably monday i will try do it, just a question if i update the fc i have to configurate later again the module and receiver? i should disconect everything of the FC?
you do not need to reconfigure your receiver and tx module/radio.. updating the fc firmware has nothing to do with those..
what you will need to focus is getting your flight controller reconfigured so it works with those devices..
no need to disconnect anything as well..
@quartz apex yooo good morning,,, bruh,,, yesterday after install the gps it started fail again.... i think is cuz the interferences for stay near of the vtx antenna or something
i will continue today trying to find the issue, also say i updated sucesfully yesterday the fc 🙂
I've flown my 6km kwad with the gps just below the VTX antenna.. the VTX outputting 1W and I'm still able to get around 18 gps sats.. no issues at all..
