you have this receiver in bootloader mode?
(yeah, even though the LED doesn't light up)
test one of the legs of the voltage regulator, it should be outputting 3.3v
if there isn't a 3.3v output, then the esp chip and the rf chip is not powered, and thus any updating attempt will fail

i looked at another post and the 3.3v leg on the regulator has power every where it should. I'm fairly confident I'm correctly putting the RX into bootloader mode. it's on 5v that does not power with usb, holding the bootloader button down and continuing to hold down before plugging in Lipo as soon as flashing script says "PASSTHROUGH DONE". Also tried releasing bootloader button 1 sec, 2 sec and 3 sec after plugging in lipo for shiz and gigs.

your other option is trying to get it flashed via an ftdi/uart adapter.. or just write it off for spares

i ordered one since i figured i may as well own one now. I'll try that method sat. Also order a happy Model EP1 RX is that a descent receiver? Had good luck with the BetaFPV receivers but no stock anywhere.

I heard but out of stock and I just need something simple and easy to work with. No reason for that foxeer to crap out like that though. I followed the ELRS documentation on that receiver to the letter. Gonna try to get it replaced.

@wintry crescent Yeah man, good FDTI adapter brought it right back from the dead in 30 sec or less. Solved!
