Yeah, but it doesn't necessarily mean they can't make a proper chip for that. Some compute datacenters use amd even though not that common.
Amd has a dedicated chip for AI datacenter, but it's not commonly used because nvidia started this way long before anyone else. Practically creating an environment where every researcher / scientist is used to nvidia CUDA computing environment. Switching to amd means they need to revamp the whole system and learn new things from scratch, which is impractical
