i mean it's not like you can only invest into affix team without investing into base element team
the nature of modern pgr is that every unit is in multiple teams
plasma beam lineup is lucia/nanami/lilith, all of those units are present in multiple teams
so rather than considering investing in a "team", you should be considering your investments in terms of individual units, and the value that individual unit brings to all the teams they are a part of

Long story short, plasma was once the strongest affix team with Lucia’s incredibly high (at the time) ult plasma dmg ratios. Now it struggles to compete against some elemental teams, and it is also not doing great in certain zones (ahem mob zone ahem). It is still a fun team to play, and take some skill/know-how to execute well.
The main problem with Plasma rn is:
- Pyroath’s ratios falling behind newer frames
- Pyroath contributes to the majority of plasma dmg in the team, and the team grinds to a halt when Pyroath is not on-field.

You already invest both Nanami and Lilith by default
What I can say is until you can get Pyroath eventually, you don't really need to build a "plasma team" just yet
If you already have Pyroath and the other 2, it's whatever, you can try the team
The memory sets that's used for the plasma team isn't that different to those respective character memory set anyway
