For the choice of color, it's like ranking your 3 members in terms of strength and seeing what kind of colour they mostly use to activate their combo. Because it'll trigger the QTE that will buff your damage by a lot (especially with the da Vinci set).
For example, astral's combo is [triple->red] so you will start your combo by either a blue or yellow triple into a red orb. Then your QTE will be on the right timing to benefit the most to astral
