The Experience/Exp system in pgr can be accumulated by several things, starting from spending serum on any stages is the most common way to obtain Commandant Exp with 1:1 serum for Exp ratio most of time.

Here are other things that would be Exp sources in early level:

• Guide system.
• • Will be available once you've reached level 20, Guide system is a Mentor and Students relationship in the game that you can ask a high level player to be your mentor in the game. Guide system offers you a total of 6 missions per week to complete that each of it rewards you MASSIVE Exp to helps you level up faster.
• Operation Guardian
• • unlocked after you finished Hidden Story Chapter 2, the battle nodes offers you a huge amount of Exp from clearing it.
• Daily Duties (daily mission)
• • offers decent amount of Commandant Exp that can be obtained from finishing dailies every day, this is your passive exp income that will accumulate to a huge number by the time went by.

A Rank Character recommendations and basic team composition in early game

As beginner you can find A member Target (Standard banner) at the start of the game from tutorial, you can use Basic Construct(Blue) Tickets to pull on this banner to get the necessary A ranks character and occasionally S rank from the pity.

REMINDER
It is HIGHLY recommended to only use Blue tickets on standard banner to pull characters, DO NOT EVER convert black cards to blue tickets. For Beginners, you will have huge Blue tickets income from finishing all of the beginner's guide and tutorial and will have enough to pull everything you would need.
It's recommended to get more A rank variable first before aiming for dupes.

For early level, it is recommended to get:

• Bridget: Ardeo, a Fire Tank with very high fire resistance reduction on the enemies with her attack, really good to have and the best budget alternative for Luna: Oblivion and Lucia: Pyroath.

• Watanabe: Astral , Dark Attacker

• No.21 XXI , Dark Tank

• Teddy: Decryptor, Dark Support
  Getting all 3 of them will give you a functional budget Dark Team to use.

• Bambinata: Vitrum , Ice Attacker

• Changyu: Qilin , Ice Tank

• Wanshi: Hypnos , Ice Support
  Getting all 3 of them will give you a functional budget Ice Team.

• Noctis: Indomitus , Lightning Attacker

• Chrome: Arclight , Lightning tank

• Liv: Lux , Lighting Support
  All 3 can be used in a team and will be your functional budget Lightning Team.

• Hanying: Zitherwoe, a very good budget Physical support alternative until you can unlock Alisa: Echo from Dorm Dispatch shop.

Getting a S rank that has similar lore as any of the A rank characters will automatically replace them in a team due to better overall performance. For example:
