pulse is nice to have for epitaph who's coming next patch, to be a QTE bot who's able to proc a specific memory for debuffing, but you can also use Sophia silverfang for that, although with lower efficiency

for the bigger S rank selector you'll get from novice guidance missions, you should get Rosetta Rigor, she's p much the only good valuable pick there

for A rank chars, you can farm shards daily for free using serum

for S rank chars you can get 30 shards using phantom pain cage currency to get them to SS, for higher ranks you either pull more copies or there are some chars available in voucher shop (free/leap units, etc)

it is heavily advised to be very wise with pain cage skull spending since they are incredibly valuable and shouldn't be wasted as a new player
