Watched Honkai 3rd guy video about saving for future S ranks and what a clown, he really thinks that the meta and character relevance in terms of gameplay is the same as in Honkai

In Honkai some older S ranks are still somewhat relevant if I remember correctly and the teams you need to put them into are quite weird and as a new player you don't have the time to make them SSS to be actually be good

nah the only relevant "old" valk is CH and some others for support, all dps chars have easily been powercrept by recent ones, even HoV who was super OP when she came out

FR is probably the best example of how much grind you need to do to make her good as a DPS considering that as a support was quite underwhelming and Blood Dance did a better job as a support and it was a just a weapon. You need her as and SS with all her stigmata, her PRI, Fischl at SSS preferably with her signature set and another elemental support or lightning DPS and HoT is still better because it doesn't require such grind

The problem is that in Honkai meta is pretty much everything if you want a good crystal income compared to PGR where missions are the best source of income
