anyone who's played Final Fantasy XIV knows that the early maps from A Realm Reborn are 500000 times better than the maps from newer expansions because now players can just fly in a straight line and ignore all terrain so maps are made less interesting because what's the point of having terrain when the player is just going to fly in a straight line

one of the best memories I've ever had in gaming was climbing to the top of Dragonspine, it took days because I got really into it and I did all the quests in there (which are mostly unmarked, you just explore the place and randomly stumble into cool things that the game doesn't tell you about, it feels very organic) and got everything, and then finally reaching the top and releasing the nail and climbing to the top and seeing the entire world from up there, it was incredible
