honestly, it's good thing the seller staf actually didn't do too much like actively engaging the thieves by chasing for example, because that is the job for security, more often, what causing situation worse is because people without proper training and protocol trying to amend the situation, which should been for security job role.

(Adding to share from my experience) its mostly because they didn't know how to gauge situation and the line between safe or not, and another one is that they often just aggravate the criminal which resulting them to retaliate, a proper trained security person will know where the safe line is, when to resort to physical action, and to consider if matter is far from their capabilities and should resort to calling police. So here my fair warning, don't try to act like hero if you don't have proper training nor able to assest the situation as a whole in case stuff like these happen.
