here's what I think:

• the bad:

  • convoluted resource farming system - (there are multiple story stages where you can farm certain material, sometimes its more optimal to farm it on earlier stages which is counterintuitive and confusing to the point where community is regularly making infographics with most optimal stages for each material)
  • grindy character level up progression - (one of the gacha games that have no weapon banners, substats, but make the game more grindy in terms of character progression materials)
  • inconvenient character's sidestory duration in events (the duration of a debuted character's side story only lasts for the duration of their banner, sometimes tied to the main story of the update due to context or spoilers in the story, forcing you to read the main story as well as the character's story within first half of the patch for the best experience.)

• mixed:

  • gacha system - (the standard 50/50 system you see in other gacha games but there are some redeeming aspects):
    • f2p pull income that is leaning more towards generous side
    • 1.5% base drop rate, +2.5% soft pity per pull starting after 60 pulls, hard pity at 70 pulls
    • no weapon banners
    • limited anniversary characters are not added to standard character pool and their anniversary banners should allegedly get a rerun after year
    • all non-anniversary characters are being added to the standard banner three patches after their debut, example: limited character released in 1.0, placed into standard banner and off-rate in 1.3)

• the good:
  • daily routine - (very low time-consuming, can be done quickly by just getting resources from dorm system, autoplay 3 stages, interact with character in main menu)
  • dorm system - (is fairly low time-consuming on daily basis, although recent addition of pets critter update could make me re-evaluate this as mixed as it makes the experience bit tedious)
  • weapon system (sort of) - (weapons system is fairly generous, all it costs is either play events to get them for free or farm daily currency to buy certain weapons from the shop)
  • past events unlocking system - (previous events are permanently added to the game, and players can slowly unlock for free for currency given for doing weekly activity, not everything from the original event is present though)
  • permanent late-game recurring game modes:
    • __Artificial Somnambulism __, a bi-weekly rotation of 12 stages that increase in difficulty where you need two teams
    • Mane's Bulletin, a score-based rewards mode with three bosses that unlock gradually throughout the update
    • Reveries in the Rain, introduced in 2.3, a permanent game mode that requires 3 teams, mode gives materials for new enhancing character system called Euphoria to buff older characters
    • A Series of Dusks, a rogueli**t**e mode, with infrequent updates and expansions that can be toggled
  • story - (well written story and dialogues, logical plots, very likeable characters and intriguing main story plot, high quality voice acting, no sleazy fanservice)

but honestly, one of the best things in Reverse 1999 is that they add non-anniversary characters to the standard pool after 3 patches, and old characters get upgrades similar to leaps in PGR (this patch 7 characters got leaps) so... losing 50/50 does not feels nearly as bad for new players or even old players as like in something such as HSR
