The red gem is basically the Tear of Elynie

Starting lorewise
In KRO that witch lady and giant spider corrupted the elven gem which turned them into an abomination

After we killed that thing Vez Nan took the gem and started his descent into evil

KR1 is where we play as the Linirean force against Vez'nan
Using the gem he formed a pact with a demon which explains his 2nd phase. After we beat vez nan his soul gets banished off into the Hellish mini campaign since he needs to pay off his debt.
The gem was stolen by Malagar, one of Vez'nan's acolytes before escaping to Hammerhold to avoid Linirean prosecution

Malagar heads off to Hammerhold and intends on using the Gem to free Umbra, a Cosmic entity trapped in solid crystals.
Umbra Kills Malagar, we kill Umbra, the gem gets stolen by an Alien which later gets stolen again by Sha'Tra
Sha'tra is the Alien hero in KRF but he's also a hero in another TD series Ironhide made that is kinda like a futuristic Alt Universe.

Anyways, Sha'Tra looses the Gem to an interdimensional Eldritch horror that consumes entire realms, which used the gem to fuel itself. The Overseer is born and decides to set it sights on our realm in KRA

Vez'nan creates an Alliance
We fight that thing and in the end after killing it Vez'Nan retrieves the Gem from the dead Overseer

The comics is way more exciting than what i am describing rn so you should get there to understand more

That Gem is the reason we have the KR universe as we know

Oni is a godsend in the demon levels cause he has a secret passive that gives him immunity to death explosion iirc
