Afaik, they didn't do this to have Cern save them. Baobhan was just a corpse that they wanted to throw out and the large window overseeing the pit was the closest they can throw her at. Remember that the OG story of Cernunnos was heavily altered so that the six original fairies' sin wasn't brought to light.

What they didn't know was that Cern was buried there and given Baobhan's zombielike nature, she fused herself into Cernunnos's core and essentially turned the once dead god into a large zombie that's capable of mors-ifying everyone.

Oberon wasn't summoned in Fairie Britain so Vortigern can't take "Oberon's" body. For all we know, Oberon from PHH is a different being entirely and not the one we know.
