One of the biggest retcons were the big bads themselves: Ascians. From ARR to dare I say SB, Ascians were the stereotypical evil masterminds that were then slowly retconned to be "misunderstood" villains come ShB.

Technically Hydaelyn is a retcon herself since her purpose and goals are always adjusted to fit the plot and it's only been laid out completely clear around ShB as well.

1.0 Primals were retconned from being gods to very powerful aether feeding creatures in 2.0.

Star Wars is more lore heavy than Half Life, even before canonity became an issue with the entire universe. Half-Life spans a couple of games with a few spin offs while Star Wars has been a treasure trove of media ever since the prequels. Half Life was released what, in the late 90s? Maybe '98 or '99? Star wars has been around since the late '70s. Iirc, Episode 4 came out in like 1977 or something and its comics started at the same year.

It would be way harder to get into Star Wars completely in modern times given that there are hundreds if not thousands of literary works/anime/cartoon/films/series to wade through. While Half-Life doesn't even scratch that surface.
