I agree with Kotomine on this one. At least with FFXIV, YoshiP himself (director and producer of the game) actively ensures that the game and its endgame content are rewarding but challenging enough that its players aren't force to play for months for little reward

Original FF14 was so shit and hated that they removed the original director, replaced him with YoshiP and in two years they worked on it EXTENSIVELY. It released again as A Realm Reborn (2.0) and it was very much well received. It has been going strong ever since.

The funny thing about WoW's story in Shadowlands is that they obviously tried to pull the same thing that FFXIV did. But they completely missed the mark since the story of Endwalker (FFXIV's latest expansion and a conclusion to the first arc of the story) was built on for 10 years.

Shadowlands and its "there's a bigger threat" was pulled out of its ass.
