Actually that is the case for someone who is trying to change the past from the future...
But... In kongmimg's case, the captain anchored himself to the past through unknown means, until he successfully rescues kongmimg.

To further analyze both of these instances...

Otto's case: Otto Apocalypse tried to change already "committed" history but realized it wasn't possible, the flow of the written events cannot be altered, and even if there was a way to do so, he would not be able to achieve it, because he is anchored to the future himself, thus he devised a plan to acquire enormous energy, and means to influence imaginary tree by that energy and force it to create another timeline, from certain point in past.
Captain's case:
The whole thing about this captain thing is treading muddy waters, but I'll try to make some sense of it. As I already mentioned, the captain is anchored to the past, so theoretically every future he experienced is not yet "committed" because he still exists in the past, and the future where thing from the past is taken and "glued forcefully" cannot exist.
he didn't actually move forward yet, as long as that anchor remains he's stuck there at that time.
So what he experienced before removing anchors were sort of "buffers" I'd be a bad analogy but, it's like a video on YouTube, you can hover there and know what's there but unless you actually click there and move the pointer there video buffer won't be committed as a real video.
So theoretically, he buffered many futures until he found one he was at least, somewhat ok with. and committed it by removing his anchor from the past, thus no timeline deviation occurred cuz, there were no alternate futures to begin with.
P.S. this is still my hypothesis and speculations, based on observations of HI3 physics and story, and not a real and confirmed theory or something, hope it helps ✌🏻

ds3 and ds1 are easier than elden ring imo

but elden ring itself isn’t that hard too because it’s open world so if u suck u can just overlevel yourself easily and have access to s*mmons or refuse to do both of these things
