You can yes, just make sure you don't go to deep if you offrate, make sure you have enough BC for new upcoming S rank that's gacha only - weapon banner is permanent so if you fail now, you can always try later again

Just need to be patient, smart and complete all content and there is definitely more than enough BC / event r&d

You also don't need R3 units, for F2P you also don't want to over invest where possible, or if very lucky then you can have this luxury from time to time

1. only a 70% chance. in a game like this, where a 100% banner is literally always there, setteling for less is always bad.
2. Newer characters will always be better. If you pull on arrival, you simply cannot have enough resources to not have to skip a main banner character

unless you get lucky earlies and become omega loaded

but for that, we already have Thunderous Research, which gives you a 100% chance since its a selector
