How do i color a black and white sketch?

Idk how to add color to this, there is one lineart layer and one shading layer that has lower opacity

I have searched how to do this but it all ends up looking ugly

Any other/general tips are also very appreciated!!

You can color the lineart, put the shadow layer on multiply and airbrush/fill the shadow layer with with whatever color you need. I assume your art app has lock transparent pixel or it's equivalent.

Tried it out myself just to make sure my own advice worked lol. From there you can add highlight on top and darken your shadows. Whatever you want to do
