Just- just look at it. (The one with the so called background)

It’s the angle, cats are little creatures and it looks like you’re eye level with this little fella, try shifting your horizon higher or look for low to the ground references that you could break down into simple colour or shapes, you’ve done really well though!!

I feel like it looks too cartoony though...

Be sure to remember if youre asking for further help on the same piece to keep it on the same thread. We want to reduce clutter

It’s hard to get sometimes, especially when the perspective isn’t one we tend to see day to day, you might be able to create depth by using a slightly less saturated and cooler tone to gradually come through where the ground meets the sky 🤔

Huh?

Sorry, I’m not great at explaining

#

Can I ask what you’re aiming for??

desert notch

For what?

steady heart
#

OH WAIT, WERE YOU ASKING FOR OTHER BACKGROUND IDEAS?

desert notch
#

Idk I just suck at drawing backgrounds that are outside so I wanted help.

#

If this one was getting too hard then maybe

#

I couldn't tell if you meant the style or background lol

That’s fair, what I’m recommending is for the background, I think what you’re struggling with is depth, your shadows are great but to make the horizon line work better you want to make the look of distance as the ground is further away from the character, gimme 2 minutes I’ll draw what I mean 😭

Ok

Oh yeah and also I suck at drawing plants lol

Ooo

That looks cool

Do you see what I mean about the desaturated cool tone thing now?

#

Thank you!!

desert notch
#

Yeah

steady heart
#

Sorry I changed the shadow in mine a bit 😭😭

desert notch
#

Its fine

I really like the flowers hehehe

Thanks

Not my finest work but you could have a play about with different flowers, a fun exercise I used to do was drawing the most simple flower we all draw and imagine it in different perspectives, I played around with the petals and everything, it’s fun when you get into it, it might be something you find fun too 😄

I saw this after I already finished lol. Is this better?

#

I personally like it, but I wanted another opinion.

Look at what hades did there in those last two drawings. What you are missing is hinted at in those drawings, but its not the flower.

When doing landscape/backgrounds for a subject, there is an important color issue you need to take into consideration when drawing. Near environments are warm, far are cool. hades does this in both of those drawing its very subtle but its there. Notice the drawing on the left how the fore is bright and vivid but as the gradient moved further back in the plane, the colors now begin to mute and shift from warm on the color wheel slowly moving towards the cool.

This is the same effect when looking at a picture and the close stuff is really bright but the mountains in the back start to fade and go blueish grey. THis is the simple trick to capture volume of space in landscape distal subjects.

Thanks!

This better?

#

It was a lil hard to do, so it's not the best.
