#Foreshorten Arms

i would say to not keep it to stiff straight lines, and once youve traced once you should try to recreate it yourself
if you want to further your understanding, ranter than lines and circles, try boxes and tubes. they dont work for everyone, but they push the understanding of 3d shapes
well okay then, thanks
Got it
Well this is what I did I copied it from the side while using the pose to help me understand more. The hands are still in the works
Rib cage is not like that
More-like this
Would have done the pelvis but I am on Android rnðŸ«
mhm yeah that does make sense
I’d also did something else, seeing a ton of reference I see people before doing the box method they attempt to do the line action first and then the boxes. I’d also noticed that the pelvis is swaying from the right side. So I did use this method to understand more of it. The hands is the struggled since it’s holding something up. Any advice for the hands?
That's her placing her left leg forward to maintain balance
Draw gestures after drawing some 1-2k you're gonna carve the 3d image of a 2d line in your head
mhm yeah?
Again I'm working on the box method this is a construction forshort
That's ok but doing this free hand is cool
Like this
mhm
Here’s what I did with the boxes, the arms look a bit off. These arms are foreshortening after all, though it’s hard to draw em small. What do you think?
the arms are fine! i think you shouldn’t use the 2d boxes they kind of restrict you, if you use boxes keep em 3d!!
mhm instead use cylinders?
i think cylinders work fine! boxes re fine as well but the ones you have are flat so
the purpose of the boxes is to understand the figure three dimensionally
also you have her head looking up but the image has her head tilted down
I know that the head is supposed to be tilted down, I did do my best to recreate with references. I also did fix the torso by making it not too big and pelvis not seem to be big. The arms are still not 3D which is a work in progress, what do you think of this?
Unless you are just trying to get a gesture, don't use 2d shapes, try to use 3d shapes because you are drawing a 3d objects, there's many youtube videos about constructing people using basic 3d shapes, go find one, and practice like 100 times. The ability to do this only comes from practice
you keep using 2d shapes like the circles for the shoulder. The shoulder is a circle-like joint but its facing forwards so its not going to be like that, it makes your anatomy look flat and removes perspective. If you look at the reference image and compare it to your circle shoulders you can see how her shoulders have more perspective and a different shape
also still using stiff straight lines here
the arms here are going down, not towards the camera
let me take a video to explain what im trying to say..
pretend this rectangle is an arm
you can rotate it to the sides and swing it back and forth, but when you lift the arm up and point it to the camera it has a different, narrower and shorter shape
heres an arm on the left facing down, and the right it facing towards the camera
im bad at explaining things...
No no I understand what you’re trying so instead of making the arms look down I should make them facing the camera instead, of course since it’s foreshortened ofc
Yes ^^
I’m working on a project for my client “HUMAN FACIAL EXPRESSIONS “ so actually I need some people pictures to work on and it’s so insecure to get pictures from google and work on it that’s why I’m reaching out to people on here. If you interested dm me
Well this is what I did with the head but having issue with the arms
i think the persistent issue is that youre like
restricting yourself to theys very stiff boxes spheres and tubes
theyre good for getting a general understanding of how things work but the body is also not made of these things
your issue with the arms tho is because you arent foreshortening it
so they just end up looking short
you have to rotate the tubes in a manner that has the "flat" end vacing the viewer
technically yes
it just comes down to do you understand the flow of things and can you translate it into an actual drwing
mhm yeah
thanks for the help and advice
I'll remember this so I can do it in every pose
So anyways I was able to fix the pose a bit, now I’m starting to draw it and thus heres what I have
This is what I did to best recreate the pose
