I think you should sketch it first before painting. And also learn how to draw shapes and forms as well while you draw. You can do both at the same time as you study the picture and eventually learn to visualize the shapes that can be made out in them and the planes too when your drawing things like this.
While the colors are very off, tge attempt is fine. And as a beginner, I don't think this is bad, and your attempt in painting the objects was good to some extent. Learning how to draw shapes in 3D and in relation to the perspective will help to made the painting not look so flat.

I onky draw at the moment, and I'm teaching myself how to draw, so I hope it was at leats helpful to some extent
