#doing an animation to learn anatomy by force and failing spectacularly
64 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
this is the last frame of my sketch which is meant to suck (and does)
this is my current bone frame (4/16) which sucks without me intending it to
im trying to do a female skeleton
let me see if i can take a video of all frames i did for now
You're the first person I ever see to try and learn anatomy through animation
So, to get it clear is your main focus learning anatomy right now?
i mean sorta
it would be best
but if i at least learnt how to draw refrences well enough
i would still be happy
my next steps were gonna be flesh and then skin and clothes
and hair ofc
Then I recommend learning about basic proportions (how tall is an average human body)
you can use the head as a measuring tool
yeah i think i learnt that 3 heads for shoulders and 8 heads tall
i just wasn't thinking about it
sorry
You could then try and learn the anatomy of each limb part by part, like starting from the head then the arms the the torso, waist and then legs
That's good and all, but it's also very detailed and tedious. getting to learn all of this means also learning correctly how to position and rotate each bone and muscle
knowing the bones is a huge thing Imo, because it gives you a really good understanding of how the muscles will attach
true
now, i know i messed up on the rotation of the arms right?
like badly
also how many heads tall are the arms
well, long?
measuring with the head should only be used for the height, the bones usually have landmarkes as to where they start and end, for example the upper arm bone the humerus starts at the end of the clavicle and ends around where the lower ribs end
just to make sure the clavicle is around the shoulders right?
this bone right here
proud of myself cause i guessed right
anyways uhhh
do i try doing another one with your instructions and report back?
oh wait you only told me where the humerus starts and ends, where does the second part of the arm end
?
sure, but I don't recommend animating it. Animation is a totally different thing with it's own rules and combining it with studying somthing important like anatomy for the first time doesn't make a good match
the lower part of the arm starts from the humers and it should be long enough to comfortably cover the crotch area
true, but animation is more of an excuse for me to redraw every frame and therefore draw the same thing multiple times
y'see how i improved from the first bone frame
that's my idea
so eventually i'd have drawn 16 skeletons
16 flesh.... fleshes?
and 16 characters
keep in mind these proportions, Arms start from the clavicle, middle is where the ribs end and they stop at the crotch area
You can do the same thing you want to do in one full page
alright, last thing before i try again, any tips for the skeleton hands?
Just simplify things, there's no point in trying to draw everything detailed
what your main focus right now should be is to understand proportions
ok, i might have messed up a little because i did arms first but is this better?
yeah, you're doing fine
Just practice and observe
It's always good to have a reference to try and copy so you can learn
i recommend sketchfab, it has tons of 3D models you can reference
yeah, i used the one you sent! it was better than the one i had
for example the human skeleton
i hope you don't mind but im sending you how it turned out, i ended up copy pasting the last few frames because only the muscles move
more of a progress showing than an animation but it works
took a 2 day break (out of my control) and here's the first muscle frame, i know i did a lot wrong but it's SO tiny i want to move on to the next frames
