#Blend tool

Oh okay, i used it in my every drawing since beginning. When i didn't use it it looked really really sharp so i thought blend was the right choice
thank you π
Er what colors are you using firstly?
umm wdym by that? Base colors or?
After I choose base colors that look decent, i go to color wheel and try to find darker one that suit the drawing
When selecting colors for shadows you actually will want to shift the color hue to a cooler color then darken, rather than simply darken. This will make it look more lifelike and interesting.
This being specific to warm direct light with cool ambient light but for now you dont need to learn more advanced lighting scenarios
Oh that makes a lot sense, I will definitely try it on my next drawing π
thank you a lot
@gusty raptor Sorry for the ping. This is why I was using blend. It looks really unnatural this way. Probably shouldn't expect to learn everything after 20 days of drawing, hopefully I will learn by time
You can use a combination of soft and hard. But dont just use soft shadows. Or else it will look flat. It also takes time and practice. Cant master rocket science in a day
Also i feel you didnt understand what i meant by the cooler colors then darken. In instances of skin it would look more like this
Oh, i just slid outer one to colder ones instead of both
True, thank you for the tips π
I will look into some tutorials for this before starting again π π
very difficult when not using blend, but won't be using it as much as i did
I really recommend to work on anatomy. It will help you understand how the forms interact with light
I was avoiding it since it sounds really boring. I usually watch some tutorials for example side profile, hair, etc... and immediately went to drawing something else. Instead of drawing and learning one body part 100 times like I saw in some tutorials
I promise while although its boring, its necessary. Its something thats basically like a foundation for a house. If you try and build a house on nothing, youll have to inevitably tear the whole thing down. But if you build it with, yes youll need to relearn some things but its aspects rather than the whole
The foundation of a house is not remotely interesting. But it is one of the most important parts.
I completely agree, for now I will try and look at some tutorials for just shadows, color theory or something like that until i feel like this may be my hobby for big part of my life.
and then start looking into more difficult stuff, I tend to give up early on new hobbies, so I really want to keep liking drawing like I still do. Well cant say much for future since it has been only 20 days π
@gusty raptor So sorry for another ping, I found some other brush that was made for shadows apparently, so I used it this time. Tip with color wheel helped a lot (If I used it correctly) so just wanted to thank you again π
You did correctly. I still recommend studying anatomy and using a combination of hard and soft shadows based on the forms
I will take a look at anatomy, but wont practice too much so i dont burn out quickly π
